مرحباً mar7aban This word is completely Arabic, it is derived from the arabic root (ر ح ب) and has nothing to do with Aramaic. The word مرحب mar7ab means a wide place and رحب ra7b means wide. When Arabs say mar7aba مرحبا to their guests they actually mean FEEL FREE ITS YOUR HOUSE, not literally though but the literal meaning is A WIDE PLACE. Arabs are known for their generosity, that's why they exaggerate when greeting someone.

Very interesting: Marhaba is of Aramaic origin. Never new this. By the way, marhaba is a Koranic word in surah Sadd..... 38:59 and 38:60.

***** We use the Arabic chat alphabet (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabic_chat_alphabet) when not using the Arabic alphabet. "7" is the equivalent of the letter ح and "h" is the equivalent of هـ. Mar7aba is spelled with ح

seeing people learning urban or العامية instead of fusha is just sad & my heart breaks a little. 10 years ago i meet some chines customers in my shop in libya looking for some stuff to buy they work for ZTE, all of them talk Egyptian Arabic very very good one of them told me they learn it in china they looked very happy because this is the first time they visit arabic country & especially after i told them it's 100% perfect, they speak egyptin unbelievably good.. but inside i was sad........ i just think it's wast of time.

Great video, I have been studying largely Egyptian Arabic along with classic/MSA. This is a different form and some pronunciations are a bit different. However, the explanations this persons writing and transliterations are excellent. Make sure you understand this slang Arabic for certain countries but for those using this as a Addition to learning Modern Standard/ Classical Arabic. This can be very beneficial. As stated this is Lebanon, Syria, Jordan & Palestine dialect.

Osama Ashor Thank you very much for the info. The Egyptian Arabic I have been taught is for sure the ones spoken in the larger cities. I must you are very right it is a very diverse language within the middle east. North African Arabic is something I don't ever wish to tackle.
