+LifeisLikeSailing - Vancouver, BC Thank you so much Alfy :) Be careful or I might pick you up on that offer ;) It's been raining for three straight days here. Why do bad things happen to good people? ;)

Good job ! Keep going strong.... I also started living aboard... A 24 foot, with no gas, no water, no insulation, no toilet, no fun!!!! But cheap and cosy! :-)

Mads - you're lucky to have such easy access to the cockpit drain hoses. On my boat, they are impossible to reach. I had to replace them a couple of years ago and it was an entire weekend contortionist exercise! Good luck with the project!
@GoofieNewfie699 жыл бұрын
+Sailor Doug Agreed , most of the boats out there are not built to be worked on. Many of the systems are installed while the boat is being manufactured with very little provision to easy access for repair or maintenance.

hehehe, Weather is always an issue, maybe consider a cockpit enclosure of some type. Even a tarp with temporary supports may help. BTW, hose clamps can be joined together to make a longer one.

I swear I've had the same luck with weather and painting aboard my H-28. The last two weekends have been devoted to new nonskid paint. no forecast for rain and 30 minutes after I've painted, downpour!! enjoying your videos

We're having a terrible drought here in California. Wondered if maybe you'd come here and do a little painting, just to create some rain.

Love your outtakes Mads! Again, congratulations on moving aboard! We look forward to the experience as soon as we find "THE" boat! And thank you for sharing your experiences & DIY videos. I'm sure we'll be watching "re-runs" as we fix & update our own stuff.

Great video as always. Man, your videos have really improved. I really enjoy watching every single one of them. Hope you've been able to get some sailing in this summer with all the activity. Take care. Cheers, Ted

If there's something you can rely on that's the unreliability of the weather forecast..And yr.no is more reliable than smhi in Sweden and I'm guessing more than dmi.dk too then.. Always a good vid, and you ARE so thorough as you are with all your jobs.. Warren s/y Legend

um... if any point of the hose is lower than the through-hull the gas won't go out. The dip won't need to get filled up with water, it will get filled up with gas. I guess it would slowly let out any gas in the box that was above the level of the through-hull... but that's not a very good safety measure. It should let ALL of it out, and fairly quickly. The drain needs to be a pretty smooth shot down and out. @Sail Life, I know I only post negative comments, but I actually do like your videos. I think I have watched over half of them now and made extremely few negative comments. You're awesome.

Thanks for the update Mads. I have a removable propane box mounted in the cockpit original from the manufacture. Makes accessing the tanks a snap...anyway of just mounting yours there...it may be easier?

I love your videos. I've been slowly working my way through your backlog. The difference is amazing. What are you using now for a mic? Previous you switched to a wearable, but I do not see you wearing one now. Also, I would love to know a little more details as to why you make some of your decisions. In this video you could inform me why you used loctite, and why you choose that kind of loctite. And when you sanded the box, which grit paper did you choose and why? OH! and why do you have bubble rape (:D) all over your vessel? Why not a tarp or canvas (more durable). These little inside tid bits of info would go a long way for the novice. Or those of us who want to know even more. ;)

Hei Mads. Gleder meg til å følge deg her videre. Hilsen IW seiler fra Norge.

Hi; As no one ever has enough of the right hose clamps get one of the kits with a bag of tensioners and a coil of band and make up what you need. More expensive, but you don't have to be a floating plumber. Also, noticed the whale bilge pump looked a little ratty. Did you get a seal and diaphragm kit for it?
@nknatewood82268 жыл бұрын
This issue has most likely been delved into ad nauseam; however, note you are using standard "worm-gear" stainless hose clamps... Have you considered using "t-bolt" clamps? Used these on a turbo-charged auto engine w/considerable success. Because these clamps are backed-up by a full circumference stainless band, they are considerably stronger than the so-called standard "worm-gear" variety. Due to the backing band, clamping force is equally applied to the joint and is near double that of the worm-gear type. Additionally, they do not cut into the clamped hose which results in long-term damage to the hose. As a result, they do not slip or "blow off'" as, from sad experience, is all-to-often the case w/worm-gear clamps. A thought for consideration in those locations where you simply *cannot* have a failure. What brought this to mind was your use of four worm-gear clamps for the replaced 'red hose' in this vid...

I believe that proper practice would have the hose claps (all SS I hope) to be placed 180 Degrees apart and not parallel to each other.

Is that hose ok for compression over fittings? In my experience the thing can be pretty stout thus not good for a good seal...i'd keep an eye on that.

I didn't see any link to the 'brand/source' of your tiny 'combo' oven or any footage for a Part 3 to finish the 'upgrade' of your 'butane/propane' tank box setup...Which costs more, in Denmark, butane or propane? I'm up-to-date on Athena refit videos but not all of the OBELIX set...
@marzsit98333 жыл бұрын
in europe all butane and propane is sold as tank exchange, the only fillups allowed are for autogas installs but those are not available for boats. to further complicate matters, there are differing standards for propane tanks in almost all european countries for example danish propane tanks might not be available for exchange in the uk, or france, or italy... butane is considered safer for boats and caravans due to the lower vapor pressure of the fuel potentially resulting in less likelihood of a leak so butane has become a standard in europe with campingaz being the one brand that you can find exchange tanks in every country except possibly the former soviet union although that may have changed. in the us the only campingaz fuel that has been available has been the ones that come in disposable tanks but in europe there are 3 sizes of exchange tank that are refillable, from smallest to largest 901, 904 and 907. i believe mads is holding a 907 in the title shot for this video which holds 2.75kg/6.06lbs of butane.

Hi Mads, I can recommend having a look at the channel of "atom voyager". He has a lot of boat reparing/updating videos you might find interesting and informative. Also his videos when he sailed the world singlehanded might be an inspiration ;-) How about putting up a temporary "roof" over the cockpit, using a small tarp hanging over your boom. Could prevent it from raining on your freshly painted items ;-)
@captlarry-35257 жыл бұрын
I think this idea of using your cockpit drain as a propane drain is completely insane,. Darwins List material ! if the through hull becomes plugged, or the boat heelsm then your cockpit fills with gas.. and well did I mention Darwins List ?
