@@Anmeteor9663 Agreed. I'm just one of the Customers they have lost as a result. I had planned to attempt doing without an onboard generator, but my love of backups for backups has intervened. Although I won't be a heavy generator user, Solar, Wind and high output alternator being likely to cope most of the time, I will use a generator regularly to ensure everything stays in tip top Condition, along with regular servicing. Right now, I'm leaning towards a Cummins powered 7.9 kw just in case as that is a comfortable surplus above minimum needs. I like nicely oversized inboard diesel engines as well as Anchors and Winches tbh = less strains and stresses on everything. Best Wishes. Bob. 🤔👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️❤️

I have the same Elegance toilet and each time I have communicated with Raritan has been an excellent experience. I might recommend that you add 2 small angled blocks to the bottom of the seat so that when the seat is down there is absolutely no side to side movement that will eventually stress and break your new hinges.
@svbarryduckworth628
@svbarryduckworth628 10 ай бұрын
Pam Wall the Crusing Consultant who does seminars at all the boat show recommends this exact mod. Using the head in a rough seaway puts stresses on the seat hinges that regular toilet seats never ever would see. We have yet to do this mod and our seat loosens up over time because of it. So far it has been easier to tighten it up occasionally than it would be to cut the little.wedges and epoxy them to the seat and paint them. We have yet to break the hinges but we are running a cheap seat from Home Depot since a small round bowl seat fits just fine on the Raritan porcelain thrones.

My marine elegance shipped with two block designs - the flat that was installed, and a a stepped-style as well. So it looks like they have updated the parts that get sent. I guess I'll be swapping the blocks!

I recommend adding a 38 mm (1.5") hose from the top of the holding tank to a through hull above the water line to replace the tiny vent that's normally present on these tanks. That way, any overflow will run unimpeded over board, with zero chance of damage. Our Beneteau Oceanis 323 has this solution, and it's been great.

Adding a small block, starboard plastic or pvc is good, to each side of the seat towards the front and extending into the bowl will take the stress off the hinge. If you are still there in January, I’ll show you. We own s/v Capers near you.

Whenever I do a job on or near the head (even at home) I put some cling film or some plastic or even cardboard over the bowl before I start. You really don’t want to be fishing around down there trying to find that nut or washer that you’re going to drop. (It’s bound to be stainless or plastic so you won’t be able to pick it up with a magnet. )

I would recommend adding diode across coil, just to protect your output. Coil, when de-energized creates rather high voltage, which may be not safe for the output circuit of the sensor controller.

I was thinking the same thing..add a flyback diode. Or replace the power hungry relay (which may be engaged for some time) with a cheap mosfet like a 2n7000 or bs170.

We love our hand-pump non-automatic Raritan,PH-II head. I rebuilt it before we left Chicago in 2016 and haven't had it apart yet to do anything to it -not even replacing the joker valve in all that time. We are full-time cruisers who don't really stay in marinas so it was being used full-time that whole time with only a few weeks of breaks to visit family away from the boat. Like you the only issue we have had is the toilet seat. It loosens up every once in a while and the paint is getting gross from some of the cleaning wipes we use. Those Clorox sanitizing wipes work great cleaning the seat and lid but the "Bemis" brand aftermarket lid just isn't up to surviving due to some cheap paint they use. We never had a.fancy Raritan seat with soft-closures. The head.had a nasty old Bemis seat that we replaced with another from Home Depot and sure enough after a half dozen years it failed again. We do the same thing with the tank level by shining a light into it like you showed but we have long ago figured out exactly how long it takes to fill it with the two of us and that is pretty regular unless one of us is sick with the squirts and then it fills up much faster obviously. We have two 1" septic vent hoses for cross-ventilation which terminate in simple mushroom through-hull fittings high up on the hull near the toe rail. When the tank is overfilled the "contents(tm)' have no problem escaping out of one or either of the vents. It's pretty embarrassing to have the "contents(tm)" of the tank dribbling down the side of the white hull with an ugly brown steak down into the water so we try very hard not to have any explosions even if it goes outside. Good boat neighbors don't let the "contents(tm)" of this tank go into the water. Nobody believes the excuse that this is the hot cocoa overflow vent.

I was surprised to see the holding tank so full. When ever I have hauled out I have always drained the tank, filled with fresh water & tank cleaner. If you don’t drain the tank you risk evaporation and the possibility of a more solid layer on the bottom of the tank

We also broke the hinges on our head. I went down to the local hardware store and bought the cheapest ROUND seat [which is what the non-boating world calls the compact marine size] with a soft close seat. Everything fit perfectly. Cost $32. Could have gotten it for $12 without the soft close.

I've been using an electronic relay... mechanical relays don't like high current dc. We've also just updated our Jasco back to wall heads with heavy duty soft close plastic seats - expensive but so worth it when on certain tacks! Our black water tanks vent just above the water line and work as an overflow, useful as the main outlet can block! Fun stuff, but like the gauge, shame our tanks are stainless... Great video.

I guess head seat hinges on a boat get much higher stressed than those on a terra firma installation. Additionally the hinges are more likley to move out of alignment as they are independent of one another.

Hi Mads. It’s funny because our boats are so similarly equipped, up to and now including the scad sensors lol.😂. Like you, I also have CZone and I have wired my scad sensors to the analogue inputs on my COI so I can see my holding tank levels on all of my MFD’s. You can also use that input to kick a relay to deactivate your toilet pump when it’s full, if the alarm function doesn’t work.

I have one complaint, we sail on Lake Ontario and have to put the boat on the hard every winter. Every year it needs to be recalibrated in the spring 😢. Not rocket surgery but annoying.
