Thank you for this video, made me cry. I am a Chilean living overseas for a long time and being away taught me to be grateful and a lot more humble. The only reason that these places exist is that the absence of humans. The harsh weather and isolation of this territory make it possible for nature to stay this way. The whole world should be gorgeous, it is men power that damages everywhere they touch. This little population of Native Chileans are self-efficient and do respect nature more than anyone I know. Big powerful nations have no idea how to do this, as they are spoil and money-hungry. I hope soon we all in perfect harmony can preserve more places in the world, so life's beauty takes over garbage. The best in your next travels!

Erika, Thanks for watching and your comment. Agree with you, that was one of the take aways from the trip, the feeling that in places no man had ever set foot due to the harsh environment and thereby it has kept its beauty and wilderness. To make as little impact as possible is important and is one of the reasons for me and my partner to move away from a society where consumption is regarded as part of development and moved on to our boat, right now in Greece. So I agree with your thoughts. Take care and hope you will have a chance to go back to your native country and experience the beauty once more,

@@EMagnusLinden Being away from Chile to a place where many people dream to live taught me that less is more. With my great education, I only found a disconnection and hungry money-oriented people, racism, and inequality. Where the mentality is nothing ever is enough. I don't want to be part of a world that is that selfish and one to its own. That is not what God intended! Now I want to work hard for several years and take off with my husband and live simply as possible in a sailboat.

@@erikab.897 I understand and living a simple life on a boat as self sufficient as possible in a minimalistic style with as little environmental effect as possible is rich in many other ways. We are enjoying it and moved onboard with an IKEA bag (we are Swedish :-)) each with our personal belongings and it was a relief. I can only wish you good luck in follow your plan through, you will not regret it. It would be exiting to follow you and your husband as you materlize your plan, do you have a Facebook where you update? @@EMagnusLinden Thank you! The good thing is that we are aware that life in a sailboat is not for everyone and many people enter with the honeymoon idea that it is all fun and games. I will tell my husband about your page and we'll look you up. I found out about you guys because of him. God Bless!! we belong to the human race, so it really doesn't matter, not an obstacle for me.

Distinguished and adventurous Swedish citizen, worthy representative of ancient and courageous Viking navigators from cold and beautiful northern lands, I can only tell you that you should have reached the end of the world to crown your beautiful journey: the small Chilean city of Puerto Williams (Navarino Island). It is not the end of the world, but much further south, that is, to the Cape Horn archipelago, the so-called "Navigators' Everest"; the true geographical end of the world, and the last corner of the American continent before reaching Antarctica. Greetings from Chile; from the beautiful, green and crazy geography of Chilean Patagonia

Thank you very much Magnus for your very excellent video coverage of this amazing part of the wild Patagonia region. For Milo and her very good seamanship and skill that she has demonstrated. I have held a very great fascination for the wild and beautiful region of Patagonia/Terra del Fuego . I was lucky enough to do a cruise ship voyage just before the Covid outbreak. We visited a few of the places that you have shown but you have covered so very much more in your voyage with Milo. I love your back ground music that is so fitting to the beautiful and wild scenery that you have covered. I so much wish to visit more closely the Patagonian wilderness. Probably a few days staying in Ushuaia would be great so as to be able to examine more closely the vegetation and scenery.

@EMagnusLinden
@EMagnusLinden 5 жыл бұрын
Judith Jacobsen when we knew the wind would come from any direction and we were landlocked with land close we thought it was better and safer with lines a shore (with chafe gear) than an anchor that could drag in places with a lot of kelp on the bottom. Also it made it possible for a fast escape if needed, just drop all lines and go. But a lot of time we anchored with at least two lines ashore when we were not landlocked.

So, so incredible! I'm Australian, and Aussies are quite proud of their country, as am I. I am also adopted, without a trace of my birth family's history I have always believed, and also felt I didn't fit properly; I was born in the wrong country. This should have been where I was born. I am comfortable in a t-shirt in subzero temperatures, in all makes sense... The desire to at least visit this area is overwhelming. It won. I'll post links to my trip when finished 👍 My house is on the market, and I'm looking at boats now. It still feels like a dream, and so far away. Best wishes 🙃😊

I can’t thank you enough for this sailing film through Patagonia and the choice of music made it even more epic, i was in awe never realised just how beautiful your journey was through this heavenly place relatively untouched truly heaven on Earth in all of its moods ,I’ve watch manly sailing videos to far off tropical places with the usual glam but yours is pure raw and inspiring ,I notice wild mussels in some of your anchorages did you sample them ? Look delicious. Your yacht what size ?i presume steel or aluminium. I wish you good luck and all the best from Ireland.

Thanks for your kind words and for watching. It is a truly special place. The yacht is a Långedrag 331, a steel hull custom made from drawing from a Swedish designer (Rolf Modig) and 33 feet (10m m). did this passage in 88, south to north though,pretty much motored Puerto williams to just north of Puerto montt due mainly to consistent northerlies, got pretty drunk (along with most of the carabineros) whilst tied up at the carabineros wharf in Puerto Eden, planning to do it again someday

Sounds exiting, Milo, who I sailed with, did a sail some years earlier with a smaller boat (28 feet) in the same area in opposite direction. She too was frustrated by the northerly winds, especially since she had engine trouble.

Milo had two other friends joining her for the sail down to Antarctica. After that she sailed home to Sweden, partly alone and partly with friends. She wrote a book about her sail (in Swedish) and have a homepage with the blog from the sail, but also in Swedish (but maybe google translate will work). She now lives in the Stockholm archipelago and work as a nurse when she is not sailing with Artemisia II in the Scandinavian waters. We see each other as often as we can. Here is the link to her homepage: www.milodahlmann.se/

I noticed that you tied off to trees, rocks and other land based location. Is anchoring not allow or does the bottom not present a good anchoring opportunity?
@EMagnusLinden
@EMagnusLinden 3 жыл бұрын
Anchoring is allowed it is just that with unpredictable strong gusty winds from all directions you need to “fixate” the boat in the anchorages (calderas) and a solid rock or sturdy tree has more reliable holdingpower than an anchor resetting in a wind shift or the pressure from a beam storm gust.

I really enjoyed your video. I have been to Ushuaia on a trip to Antarctica on the Bark Europa. I found Tierra del Fuego very interesting, and a wild, beautiful place. Have you read Joshua Slocum's account of sailing the Strait of Magellan?
@EMagnusLinden
@EMagnusLinden 5 жыл бұрын
Mirror Cruising Thanks for watching. Fantastic area and great that you have been there with Europa (was there a crew membrer called Leah Sweet on board with you?). Yes I read Slocum and his encounter with the natives and tacks on deck, allthough it was a while back now. Sometimes I find books from sailors cruising in the past and it is fashinating (and sometimes scary) to realize how much has changed. All the best, Magnus
