Want to see our Abandoned Sailboats EXTREME Makeover? This is how we transformed our once project sailboat over 5 years. This boat refit was more than what we imagined it to be. We knew we needed to get a project sailboat, in order to be able to afford it. We do many projects on our sailboat. First we did foundational work to be able to sail again. Then we fix our project sailboats interior to make her a cozy tiny home, then we do the exterior makeover. This extreme sailboat makeover took some time but in the end our sailboat turned out beautiful.
It took us a long time to fix our project boat, but it was very rewarding. Now our once project boat, sails like a dream...
This is a journey that we look forward to sharing with all of you!

Having spent a career in the marine industry, I'm well aware of what was involved in bringing Alma back to life. Such a project is certainly not for everyone! Kudos to you and your family for sticking with the project to where you could finally get to cruise on the boat and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Good job guys. There are so many beautiful old boats out there that can be brought back to life and live another 30 40 years.. But that's for very determined people. I am restoring a UFO 27 from 1977 for the past 4 years and I find great joy working on it, imagining small modifications to make it work better for today, but still keep the identity of the boat. Of course all bulkheads are white instead of varniced wood to bring light but all the trims are left varniced wood and the contrast looks beautiful. I found that most of the times it's a lot better and faster to replace some parts of the boat instead of patching or removing old paint, especially from plywood... What is worth keeping are the stainless screws and other metal parts of the boat.. You can't find same quality nowadays. Your boat is a gem enjoy it the best way..
@SailingAlma
@SailingAlma 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. Thats amazing, congrats to you for keeping the restoration going for that time frame, we know it takes a lot of work. That sounds great what you are doing, the contrast will definitely make it stand out. That was the same idea we were going for light colors with wood accents. Yea sometimes its easier to do that and cheaper too. Looking forward to hearing from you again, best of wishes to you.

its a shame we live in a disposable society and it's to bad that people view vintage boats as a maintenance and restoration nightmare when in fact there is nothing more rewarding , having once owned a 40 foot wood boat for 36 years i truly miss all the work involved , and i know for a fact when you look back on this you will more likely have the best memories in the restoration of Alma , your boat is like the perfect layout , i love it !! i hope you plan to live aboard full time for the next 30 years ,, the best place to bring up your kids

¡Quedö hermoso! Fuente de inspiraciön. Mis preguntas. 1) Could you explain you electric/power setup? Batteries model + battery bank main specs: serial/parallel, Volts, Ah, Wh, max Watts/Apms, Solar panels model main specs, quantity, serial/parallel, how much Wh/Ah they generate in practice, panel controllers quantity (one, one per panel, one per two panels). Are both panels below the main sail connected together (shadow over one should decrease the power of the other[s]), are they static or on rails? Wind generator model and main specs, actual generation (anchored and sailing). any other means of generation? Your total power consumption (anchor and sailing)? What consumes the most per day? Using AC or DC appliances? Do you produce at any point more power than you can store? Warm water? Cooking? Heating? 2) Which set of sails you carry? Saludos!

I see you have blue water jugs tied up on deck does this mean you don’t have a water maker?
@SailingAlma
@SailingAlma 4 жыл бұрын
Yes we do but when we run it we have spare water just in case, we sometimes anchor or cruise on a polluted and very busy area or one with not so good Quality water We have 80 gallons of water Which seems not like a lot but it’s not if you get frugal so having an extra 15 gallons had come handy a couple times we usually run the water maker offshore or near the inlet with the incoming tide from the ocean but sometimes we cruise on inter coastal waters Where the quality is not the best 👍thanks for watching!

Couple of bits of advice about the editing: learn how to mix your sound better. It was so quiet that I had to crank my volume up (despite having Adam A7 studio monitors) and was anticipating a clip to be badly mixed that was booming. The result was that I couldn't hear what you were saying most of the time losing a lot of impact of the story. Mix voice to peak at -6dB on on the level meter and music to peak at a maximum of -12dB. Better mixed sound (with consistent levels between clips filmed at different times) will improve the quality of your videos immensely and so many overlook it to their deteriment. Story: At the end, we've already seen the boat how it was before the refit. The closing shots were wasted showing the boat in its original form. At the end, you only want to show the 'before' images to reveal the 'after' shots before a lasting revel in its glory. I look forward to future videos, maybe a breakdown the work that was done and to hear talk about your sailing aspirations.
