Great that you found your way to our new episode. Enjoy part 3 of our sailboat refit series, as we change the gas piping of 40-year-old MAKANI all by ourselves. 🤗

Thanks for sharing this! I plan on doing a similar job pretty soon on my boat and it really helps to see other people's experience.

your cooker is so clean. Actually the whole boat is clean. Very professional.
@SailingMAKANI3 жыл бұрын
Well thank you Paul! 😊👍 The cooker was actually hardly used when we bought the boat back in December 2018. But we use it a lot and try to keep it clean and working. We also try to keep the inside of the boat neat and try to avoid cluttering. There's no room for a lot of stuff, so it's not that hard to keep it tidy. 😉

Liebsten Dank für das tolle Video! Wir haben uns gerade eine 40 Jahre alte Dufour gekauft und uns steht der Austausch der Gasleitung auch noch bevor. Dank eurer guten Anleitung sollte das kein Problem sein. 😊

Another great video, thanks for sharing. Max I like your approach to the repairs. You don’t just patch the system to get it operational but overhaul it so that it is trustworthy.👍

Great job. I changed mine out years ago but put in flexible hose. Yours is probably better. However I also changed the type of gas to something called CNG or compressed natural gas. CNG is actually lighter than air so it’s a lot more safe to have on the boat. You might want to check it out.
@SailingMAKANI3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Dan! We originally wanted to install just a hose instead of the copper pipe. It would be nice to have less jointed areas down the line. CNG sounds like an interesting option! We’ll definitely look into that.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, fixing things is about 30% of the sailing time, with each achievement you´ll be more confident. Viel Glück Freunde!

Thank you for your lovely comment. Agreed! We think that all the little and bigger upgrades will help us enjoy the next sailing season more. As new boat owners we worry a lot about our floating home and the possibility of yet another problem. This feeling will probably never go away, but we hope to take some pressure off our shoulders and to make living on the boat more relaxed and fun. Hoffentlich! 😉😁

Well, I nearly lost control, Pipes, but not just pipes, gas pipes this will get many close to exploding with excitement. When the director shouted, CUT, is that what he meant? I still get to see nice people doing stuff so I'm not complaining. As I am in UK Covid prison I have nothing better to be doing or am allowed to be doing without a fine.🤨🙄😉😃😁

Great comment, as usual Mike! 😃 I always enjoy reading them first thing Monday morning! And about your ‘prison’: Since we spent the first 3 months of lockdown last year stranded on the Isle of Wight, England still feels a bit like a second home to us and we really hope that soon all will be FINE.

@@SailingMAKANI IOW was blessed by your visit, The problem with comments is it is not always easy to ensure the reader understands that you are at least attempting a little humour and not being insulting. You have my respect. The main problem for us is we do not have anyone on either side capable of doing even a half-arsed job right now. If I had to vote for someone to help fix the mess I couldn't do it. Hugs, have a great day.😊😍

It is good to see young people doing their own repairs and improvements, you will be more self sufficient if a problem occurs, cheers, Richard
@SailingMAKANI3 жыл бұрын
Dear Richard, thank you so much for saying that. The main goal is to make the boat more and more our own. We believe that you should know every inch of your home to locate problems fast, or to avoid them altogether. You learn so much when you repair things yourself. I am always so impressed filming the many things Max does to the boat. Doing these things also keeps us busy and entertained, while we wait for spring and for our next adventure. Cheers, Kathi

I liked the video but for me the music wasn't background music it was more upfront. It was way too loud, music should be in the background, subtle, there to enhance your viewing enhance. For me the music in this video was slapping me in the face so much so I had to turn down the volume so much I couldn't hear you guys talk. Just my two cents for what it's worth, otherwise keep up the good work.

Thank you for the feedback! Sound design is tricky. I (Kathi) aim to keep the peaks between -6 and -12 db (-6 db for voice & -12 db for music), because according to my research these are good settings or indicators for KZbin videos. But that doesn’t mean that this is the right setting for every song or voice. Since I am far from being a professional video editor and still learn a ton of new things with every video I work on, I would appreciate our viewer’s tips for better audio settings. Until then, sorry for the slap in the face. I didn’t mean to! 😉

@@SailingMAKANI I watch video after video after video on KZbin and never have to touch my audio level except on your video. That's how I judge it.

Kathi, I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but that thing on top of your gas bottle is called a regulator. And a good comment from S.T.L.T. - okay bye, bye...
@SailingMAKANI3 жыл бұрын
Hey Eric! No worries, that’s not mean at all! I clearly didn’t know what the thing is called. Usually I ask Max to tell me the correct term and then put it in as a subtitle with a (!) next to it, but this time I forgot to do so. But to be fair, the regulator (!) is also the thing that connects the bottle to the flexible gas hose (i.e. the gas piping), no!? 😉 Oh and I was confused about the ‘good comment from S.T.L.T’ part! What do Mandy & Alex have to do with the regulator on top of our gas bottle?
