Vanlifer tip: you can clean dishes with distilled white vinegar, just fill up a lil spray bottle. Does a pretty good job breaking down grease/oil and you don’t have to use any water. 🤙

I like in the beginning of your video you brought up the subject of you've been sailing for 5 years or sailing one year 5 times. I've talked to people about this and they think I'm crazy but I want to go out with an instructor in a very bad weather situation. The reason being I want to know what exactly it feels like and to know exactly what to do. And the only way to get that kind of experience is to go out and do it. But I want to do it safely and with the best chance of survival. I heard that there are instructors that specialize in this. I think every world sailor should take a course on this. A book can only teach you theoretically, but doing it will give you experience.

Haha, it’s a unusual thought to intentionally head out sailing to colder climates and potentially tougher conditions at sea! It’s not a bad idea to try it out with someone experienced first or build up to it like we’ve tried to. I hope to never stop learning and growing, even if people think your crazy for it 🙂

For a jammed winch, just apply a distel prusik to the tight side of the jammed line to pull somewhat towards that winch. Tie in that closed prusik to a non-slip knot of your choice on the end of some other line. Use another winch to pull the new line tight against the sail, to create slack in the jammed winch. I'd guess that's one of the few ways you'd be able to loosen a hawser on a berthed ship, to fasten it to a [double] bit if it's been winched in with a spool or capstan.

i love your channel because you show it all, the good and the bad. The best part is that you make it look fun, even the bad parts ( weather/work/problems ) you handle as a couple and with a calmness and acceptance that is amazing. Your point of moving the waypoint sums it up best, you can usually make any situation better by how you see it/react to it/deal with it.

I guess you’ve arrived - congratulations!!! It’s an important voyage to have accomplished and it will resonate through the entire rest of your life!! We were not so brave - we spent 9 months planning a trip Antigua->Florida->Bahamas->Bermuda->Faroes->Lofotens->Caribbean. Sitting in Bermuda around June 1 we decided that if we continued there was a good chance we would get cold and wet. So we took a right and sailed 1,000 miles back to Guadeloupe!! Sunscreen>parkas!!!
