In this episode we leave the freedom at the secluded anchorage of Fleinvær sailing to Inndyr, which is a small community on the mainland. They have the most fantastic old church; built around 1130 a.d. and also an old pillory. We are fortunate enough to attend a concert with the local musician Jan Fredrik Helland. "If the night" is produced and presented by him, and he has given us permission to use his music in this video.
Sailing in Northern Norway is the number one activity for us, Marena and Roger Leivseth. We love our Argo, which is a German built Bavaria 31 Cruiser, 2008. Sailing is giving us rest, peace and energy. In these beautiful surroundings it is always a pleasure to take our beloved sailboat out for a cruise. We live up north in Norway, in Fauske, just north of the Arctic circle close to the Lofoten Islands. We experience the midnight sun during summers and polar nights during the winters. Our sailing season usually starts in the end of March due to the polar nights and temperatures way below freezing during winter. We normally end the sailing season in October for the same reasons.
We are very fortunate to live in these surroundings with the love for sailing. The nearby areas are lovely places to visit, both fjords, archipelagos and islands in open sea.
Hopefully you want to follow along our journey so that you can experience the northern parts of Norway through our videos :-)

These wooden churches are beautiful. We always love the 3D models of boats hanging from the ceiling. Anywhere you go in the world in a coastal community, you see them to protect fishermen. Thanks for sharing c/t.

The church interior is really nice and there seems to be some really interesting history / stories about these churches. Wish we could have been there to hear them all!

+Matt Escape When you hear them, you hardly believe them. Look at the size of the priest clothes hanging on the wall. He was enormous and he cast a spell on to his two sons because the treated one of their animals in a bad way. The hole family was pursued by accidents for decades and both sons died quite fast after the father put a spell on them. Many, many years later a person in the family asked a priest for help. The priest agreed to help them and the family has not been pursued by accident after that. The family is still around.

I cannot believe you would sell Argo! Surely the best solution is for Roger to wear no shoes below deck so as to make him shorter? And a for a Jeanneau........? Words fail me :-)

The Journey Thanks, If I say about a 100 days, I think it’s close. It’s take some time to get familiar with sailing and getting used to being on a anchorage ( sleeping while you only have a piece of metal holding you in place) then you’re going to dock in narrow places, and I maybe a little windy and maybe it’s dark as well You need to practice these things, so you and your crew knows what to do. Then it’s important to know your boat, where is everything and how does it work. Then there’s the navigation both night and day, and how does the communications systems work. And then you got the weather forecast, how do you get that without internet? Yes, I think a hundred days is almost right. But we enjoyed every second of it 😃

@@SailingArgo speciell...

Mvh

When you were talking about your neighbour's boat you used the word "he". In English boats are traditionally "she" (though of course, "it" is fine too). For some reason we default to "he" when we're talking about the captain (eg "She's a lovely boat, but what's he doing?"). Is it a Norwegian things that boats are male?
@SailingArgo
@SailingArgo 5 жыл бұрын
+Sail Ho no, it’s me saying it wrong. 🤣 It’s «she» also in Norway. But Argo is from an old mythology boat and it’s not a girls name. So it sometimes a little difficult to know. I never thought about that we always use «he» about the Captain but you’re absolutely right, we do. It’s strange🧐
