Singlehanded sailing in my Hartley GTS trailer-sailor, on Lake Aviemore.
I have since changed the jib sheet cleats for swiveling cam cleats on the combing and put them on pulleys. Less force required and but more rope. Easier to cleat though.

I have watched this 5 times, great work . I have a hartley TS 18 and sail around the bays of Melbourne , I am very envious of your adventure on the lakes of the south island and hope to get out there next time I am over .

The jibsheets run either side of the cabin and attach to cam cleats on either side of the cabin. The main sheet runs between 2 blocks which are connected to the boom and the deck. The sheet comes through a cam cleat from the swiveling block on the deck to the hand. Hope that explains it. Single-handed sailing is tricky, as you cannot firmly locate the jibsheets in the cleats without 2 hands. Letting go of the tiller is the only way. It's OK if the helm is fairly neutral or tends to weather helm.

I love seeing Hartley's being sailed around! Curious as to how you've setup your outhaul - it looks like it's snaking down both sides of the boom?
@stefis6
@stefis6 12 жыл бұрын
The outhaul is conventional. However what I think, having re-read you post, you are seeing is the reefing system I have.

Mate,, you need to put your life jacket on first. Secondly if your sailing alone, get tethered to your vessel. On the plus side, a good demo on how easy a Hartley is to sail.

Freakin awesome. What size is that boat? I just got a 18-20 foot Kestrel. Can you sail these alone and with just the Main Sail? Looks like awesome fun.

Thanks, while you can sail then on the main alone,depending on how they are rigged it may prove tricky to tack successfully and reliably without the jib flying. The important bit I think is to ensure you have the boat rigged up correctly and the sail sheet cleats positioned for best access. This takes a bit of time and thought.

Thanks for replying mate. Do you know if my 18 foot kestrel will have a Centre Board (Portable Keel) or not? Theirs no slots for the Centre board to go under the wood planks in the middle of the boat. I need all the help i can get to see whats going on with my 18 Kestrel Trailer Sailer lol. I can send photos over facebook or email so you know what boat it is if you like. Thanks for your help... Looks like a'lot of fun. What size boat is it you're sailing in the video?

Wow they really need to be sailed flat like a dinghy. I didn't realise how much weather helm you get when it loads up. Must be the chines digging in or something.

I was having a bit of fun that day and have since re-arranged the jib sheets with pullets and changed the cleat positions, so I have fine tune the jib better. Certainly easier with a crew.
