Thanks for the video. I have a fair amount of offshore experience AND have always done most of the work on my boats, having been around sailboats since childhood. Now retired and looking for a fast, comfortable cruiser that is nice to live aboard and not planning to ever sail with more than 4 people aboard, I looked at a couple dozen designs. I have ordered a Bene 38.1, for delivery in spring '23. Configurations: deep draft fixed keel, 3 cabin layout, L-shaped galley, tall rig, bowsprit, traditional hoist mainsail, no "roll bar" i.e., arch (an eyesore and an abomination), 40 hp engine, extra water tank (85 gal. total). There are many, many excellent choices and really, it comes down to personal preference, and which design "checks the most boxes" for the individual buyer. The "best" choice is 100% subjective. Fair winds to all!

A intentionally beached boat is too kool !!!! Shown at the intro … I’m a river jet boater come to sailing. Not rubbing the rocks is abnormal 😂

I would like to get each upwind in a stiff breeze and a sea state, watching the uneven gaps in the interior paneling and bulkheads for movement. I believe that might show how it twisted and flexed. Or it might just show who built the better boat?

Great video Chris, the one I’ve been waiting for. 🙂 I still prefer the SO 380 with her galley arrangement, direct drive and most importantly for me, the walk around decks. Those decks are amazing IMO. I’ve definitely become a convert to your way of thinking after reading your book and watching your videos. Thank you Chris!

Well done! They are both amazing. In the end it would come down to purchase price. The only thing I could see as a differentiator is the walk around deck on the Jeanneau. It is great for what it is designed for. My only (and this is a nit) issue with it is how would you rig a fully enclosed cockpit with it? There is no place to snap the side panels to keep them secure. I guess I will have to see one in person to know if that is really an issue or not. See you in Annapolis! 😁

I have to say that they are both very nice boats, and I agree with you that saving $100,000 just makes sense.

Great video comparison as usual. Thank you. Can you give me some idea of how many used boats of this type come on the market each year and when you get ready how quick you have to make a move. Thank you

With 8 people on my boat while crossing an ocean, a much bigger danger is someone getting thrown overboard. That's a lot of people on a 38' boat. LOL

so the boats the same, but you can get an older Beneteau for cheaper.

The Jeanneau looks to be a great vessel and at a decent price.

The water tanks on the Beneteau I suspect can be added too, but a water maker is a known finicky device and on a big passage, I would hate to rely on 34 gallons if you have 4 people and the water maker shits the bed on day 3 of 14. However, one thing that is impossible to change is the aux drive. The Bene uses a sail drive while the Jean uses a shaft drive. I favor a shaft drive. I do like the interior of the Bene more I think. Not sure, it's really hard to tell on the websites. My daughter is moving to Maryland this summer so that means FREE LODGING for me to go to the boat show... Well, free with a child is hardly a true thing.

Chris they both look great but I have to agree that the Beneteau would be my choice account of price. 😁😁

same company how come 100K price difference
@dainiusfigoras2 жыл бұрын
if you compare prices from same year, they aren't that different. Oceanis from 2022 - 260K Eur, Jeanneau from 2022 - 275K Eur.

Once you said Capsize screening ratio is unimportant, you lost all credibility. The ratio is nutral at 2.0. Less than 2.0 means that the boat will rite size if it capsizes, over 2.0 means it might not. To say it’s just a num er someone came up with so it doesn’t matter is discrediting

Thanks for the video. I understand that you are probably targeting most iconics brands in order to make everyone comfortable. But I would love to see a versus between 2 trimaran like the dragonfly 30 and the tricat 28. Keep the great work on your video anyway
