As always, great review and beautiful boat! My wife and I saw the Rapido 40 in Annapolis. The interior room is surprising and it feels a bit roomier than the Dragonfly 40 which we also saw. Like you, Dave, my wife will have nothing to do with a Tri because of the space sacrifice vs. a Cat. But I agree, if it were just me..... 🙂

I like your review of the Rapido. I think it has shaft drive which is a seal the deal if i had the money. But i like the Rapido 53XS a lot more.

Hey Randall! They have also contemplated the 63XS!! Can you imagine!! We need to find someone to buy one just so we can see it!

Have you ever done any Schionning Designs multihulls in review from Australia?

Hey Way! I’d love to do a Schioning but they are scarce as hens teeth. Maybe one day. Thanks for watching. D

Does the Neel 43 sail? It seems like the 47 was disappointing in that respect (and the 52 is sort of gigantic)

Hi Andrew. Here is the review and comparison on the 43. I’ll find the 47 and drop you a note. Neel 43 Review and tour kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIO1eqt_pMZ-l5o

@@navalgazingatcampdavid Thanks. I seem to have been on "mid performance, mid luxury" boats for study - The 40ish Seawinds, Neels, that sort of thing. Your reviews have me looking harder at Rapido. Appreciated.

I'd probably like a Rapido 45 if they made it, and if my boat buying budget was 3x. I'd love to do some extensive cruising in a multihull but there are places in the world I'd rather not go so a circumnavigation is out for me.

This is defiantly a real sailors boat.... Not sure how the admirals are going to like it. Going fast is great, but going fast is uncomfortable when making crossings... Lets wait and see if the admiral on La Vag will make crossings onboard.

Good point. Although their latest 600 mile crossing in heavy weather looked surprisingly smooth considering sea state and speed.

I still don't understand why trimarans are faster than catamarans when trimarans usually only have two of the hulls in the water at any time. Given the same weight distribution and length I would think they would be equal.
@navalgazingatcampdavid11 ай бұрын
Hey Jim! Thanks for watching!! Trimarans are often faster than catamarans due to several key design elements: Narrower Hull Shape: Trimarans typically have a very narrow central hull, which reduces water resistance. This streamlined shape allows them to cut through water more efficiently than the wider hulls of catamarans. Lightweight Design: Trimarans are often lighter than catamarans. The reduced weight contributes to their higher speed as they can more easily ride on top of the water, decreasing drag. Greater Stability: The three-hull design of a trimaran offers greater stability, especially when sailing upwind. This stability allows them to use larger sails without the risk of capsizing, translating into higher speeds. Reduced Wave-Induced Drag: The outer hulls (floats) of a trimaran are typically positioned so that they are less affected by the waves than a catamaran. This reduces the wave-induced drag and helps maintain higher speeds. Efficient Tacking and Jibing: Trimarans can often tack (turn through the wind) and jibe (turn away from the wind) more efficiently than catamarans. This efficiency can be advantageous in races or situations where maneuverability contributes to overall speed. However, it's important to note that the performance of these vessels can vary greatly depending on their specific design, the conditions in which they are sailing, and the skills of the crew. In some situations or for certain uses, a catamaran might be preferable despite the speed advantage of a trimaran. Thanks again for watching and commenting! D

Not ideal to load up the amas. Carrying Weight in a tri really hurts performance, especially in the extremities, including the amas.
@navalgazingatcampdavid6 ай бұрын
Hi Steve. Thanks for watching. Yes. Weight is far more of an issue than in a good old monohull. D

Gawd - you talk some rubbish. Obviously you are receiving some benefit for promoting the Rapido. $400k premium over the Neel 43 & you reckon it’s better? c’mon get real.
@navalgazingatcampdavid4 ай бұрын
Hey Chris. Thanks for watching. Nope. No one pays me a cent. My thoughts on the two boats are based on the materials use, engineering, and performance numbers. Having said that, boats are VERY personal things and their value is based on your application and their ability to do what you find important. Thanks again for watching. D
