I spent over 55 years sailing the East Coast with over 30 based on the Deben at Ramsholt. A magical spot. I miss it all very much having just swallowed the anchor. That coast has a mystery,- a wildness which is difficult to describe to someone who has never visited it.

Thank you very much, John, for watching and commenting. The wildness, mystery, and beauty are all the more impressive as they are hidden just a few miles behind bigger towns. We were sitting at Ramsholt watching an elderly couple putting their wooden dinghy in the water and rowing out to their moored sailboat. All in great style that impressed me much. You could see that they did that for decades and still enjoyed it very much.

That’s a very poetic comment. I used to sail from Pin Mill in the 80’s with my uncle so know what you mean

I sadly moved away from Suffolk 12 years ago,and the River Deben was one of the most magical rivers I ever spent time on and near. It brought back so many happy memories seeing it once again. I learned to sail on the Deben, and I can still hear the ghostly sounds of Curlews on my walks to Kyson Point. Thanks so much for posting.

Thanks! A magical place indeed. Also now in fall and winter, it must be beautiful. I wonder if you guys who kindly commented here know each other, as so many sailed on the Deben since their youth?

What a great film! You picked a beautiful part of the British Isles which most people will never see. Your film told the story very well and great skills in the cinematic shots and editing. The sailing also looked good!

very nice indeed... you made an excellent job of explaining the delights of the east coast. Most of my sailing has been around the here and the mooring at "the Rocks" on the Deben is one of the nicest in England. The estuaries with their soupy waters, mud flats, shingle banks and ever shifting bars which require good timing, a decent engine and the wind in the right place are not to everyone's taste, but they are home to me now
@sy.coelacanth
@sy.coelacanth Ай бұрын
Thank you very much, Dylan, that's an honour from someone who knows the region so well and has created a wealth of sailing films. The estuaries are often a thrill, but their beauty is a great reward. Also the people we met were very kind, and connected to the maritime history of the region. And versed sailors.

Wonderful photography. Brought back so many memories. My father kept his boat on the Deben and I lived in Burnham on Crouch through out the 1960 before moving south to the Solent for work. Still sailed back to the East Coast whenever possible, the Solent is so crowded. Keep enjoying your sailing.
