96. Sailing in Light Winds
Footage from 2023 sailing season.
Light wind days mean we don't travel very far...hours later and we still see our marina.
Our boat sails well in light winds. In fact, it is not set up for strong winds...not enough reefing points.
Consequently, we rely on a favorable forecast but sometimes the wind is less than expected.
One good thing about light wind sailing...it's easy to walk around the boat and hang out at the bow.
It is easier to balance the boat in light and/or not gusty winds. Simply put, this means that the steering force equals the force from the sails.
Why do cormorants fly so close to the water? I asked google and apparently: "Skimming permits the birds to take advantage of an aerodynamic phenomenon known as "ground effect."
...which reduces drag of the airflow around the wing...pretty smart!
Sometimes, even if there is no wind, we go out hoping it will pick up.
And this is what sailing in good wind looks like.
Dock neighbors: gratitude and revenge!
But no matter what kind of sailing we had, the beer at the dock is always good!
