I have enjoyed following your adventures. Noticed you had Rolly Tasker sails. I had the pleasure of sailing with Rolly, including the1979 Sydney - Hobart race, A great yachtie and a true gentleman. Unfortunately like many noted skippers he is no longer with us. Father time is catching up with me, and have had to hang up my wet gear.. Keep on posting your adventures. I suppose not every destination or waypoint is a gem of the sea, but we'd never know it by looking at your videos! You have a gift of finding or producing the beauty of every locale you pass through! That is no accident! We see and verify that every other week! You can take just the light, reflections, contrast, shadows, color, and variety, and turn them into a spectacle to behold! But when we do it, it's just ho-hum and nap time! I can't thank you enough for taking advantage of your talent and doing all this for us!

i love helford. i worked on a fishing boat there and scillies. when i was young and traveling. when you showed the passage in i got a little tingle of nostalgia. the mist and rooks in the tree up near the yacht club. we used to more the dinghy at the shipwrights. next time your there there is a little path at the end of the village that takes you up to manaccan through the woods. if you get the right time of the year its covered in bluebells. there is a man sized rectangle of stone on the path half way that the locals say was where you would rest when taking a dead fisherman up from helford. its a magic place thanks for reigniting the memory.

I'm going to build one of those sailing tenders so that I can use it as a toy to sail only. I'm going to also have a hard tender and plan on stacking the two of them on top of each other at the transom. Yes, getting an OC Tender sailing version which would be great but I want something a bit different and that involves me getting two different boats. I love that carbon mast and how the sail slides up it.

I really enjoyed the sailing in this episode and the couple of glimpses of your onshore visits, but no more videos until March now. Did I get that right? And still no updates on Flo's makeover? Rather disappointing. Oh well
@artsmith103
@artsmith103 Ай бұрын
I think the opposite. There will be a mid January episode of the end of this trip. Then 2 weeks later at minimum there will be a refit evaluation. If that takes 2 episodes then that goes until mid February. So only 1 more episode to fill the time until March starts the Atlantic crossing. I don't have any special inside knowledge but that's similar to what they've been saying.

When Matt is tensioning the sail, as at 14:45, and winds it tighter, then glances up at the sail to see if it is right: what exactly is he looking for? The tell-tales? Or is it just judgement by eye?
@SailingYachtFlorence
@SailingYachtFlorence Ай бұрын
Mostly tell tails but also leach tension, checking to see if we also need to adjust the genoa car position on the track to control the leach better.

Isn't the bit from 15:03 to 15:47 a little bit dangerous? Recently someone tragically died in a yahct race because the boom hit them. Could the boom somehow hit Amy at anytime when she's going along the side or winding that thing? Please be safe guys!
@artsmith103
@artsmith103 Ай бұрын
Hope to give you quick insight (winding that thing) rather than speak for anyone. That is a basic tack going upwind. The boat is turning about 90 degrees. From your perspective, the driver asks, ready? Crew answers, yes. That just about eliminates any risk. After that, it's basic sailing mechanics, they do it multiple times per day.
@TomTremayne
@TomTremayne Ай бұрын
@@artsmith103 Well yes I'm not a yahctsman so thank you for explaining. I mase more referring to when Amy is standing near the boom up front & had just read online about the deaths in some recent race. i know they're good sailors; really just wanted them to know people care about them..........

There is a balance between great cinematography and teasers. I do not know, to be honest if I like "March promise"... but as many have said, you are a class for your own. I know I'm repeating myself here, but is there any way your youtube videos can be more up to date. For obvious reasons I do appreciate why your pushing patreon membership. But alas, pensioners like me do not have sufficient weekly income to splurge on patron. Looking at your adventures that happened 8 or 10 weeks ago isn't very exciting. I have followed you on most if your journey around the world and then your videos weren't so far past real time.
@artsmith103

The videos are going to be every 2 weeks regardless if this is October or December filming. We watch in KZbin time, what difference does it make when the segment was filmed? They are 25 minutes of fantastic sailing on a well explained journey. They need time for editing and to have some idea of the next video start/stop in order to frame the current timeframe. And maybe this arrangement leads to a little more crowdfunding, Florence has more than earned it.
