Hey guys. Just discovered your channel. We’re Ken and Candy and others on La Toys III, the C42 that was just a couple of boats from you in La Cruz. I love what you’ve done to your boat. I hope we can cross paths again. We’re on our way to Puerto Escondido where ours will be for the summer. Zipping along at about 4 kts, there will be plenty of time to watch some of your videos!

Li Polymer and Li ion cells shouldnt reall be used on boats but are in loads of devices these are where the fires start... The safer types are Li Phoshate and are sometimes built into flood able boxes. The fact that the hull wasnt burnt to the water line indicates this wasnt a full blown lithium ion fire. Blade cells are safer than other formats. They can stand a nail or screwdriver being pushed through them. From UK boating and insurance industry investigations and report.. most fires start with secondary devices bought on board and charging or left in the sun and charging. So phones laptops power packs cameras ..electric water toys etc. In terms of EVs v ice powered vehicles your 80 times more likely to experience a fire in an ICE vehicle .. add in bottled gas and thats another massive risk. See the Bearfoot doctors whose 1 year old ICE Leopard went up in flames in the US whilst in the marina and took another Leopard with it both burned to the water line in minutes ... 😢 Conventional GRP and carbon fiber composites are basicly 🛢️ oil products.. they burn and produce toxic black smoke. The other thing i see is the time and the weather. This could have started in the solar system.. theres none of the exploding de gassing going on if the fire had started in the propulsion/house battery systems indeed the propulsion system would have been off so isolated. So the house system is where you would begin to look if it was a primary electrical fault. Its a horrid thing to happen but try not to assume its the batteries... When all the numbers and reports put them as a lower risk than historic systems. The other point is that new battery packs are being built with extinguisher loops built in ... Also Na based cells are already in the range of of Li phosphate cells but more temp tollerant esp in the cold .. they are safer cheaper and none toxic to make and in the event of a fire or sinking. Its Na ..salt 🧂 same as in sea water brine or found in the billions of tons in the US .. formerly used for glass making.

And, it actually reignited and did burn to the waterline and then eventually sunk. I just don't have any pictures of that part...
