Hi, considering your planning to sail around the world.. is worth making a fuel polisher for your diesel. There is bits of dirt even in the best of fuel.. this deposits in the bottom of your tank. Over time the gunk builds up.. when youaccelerate hard.. sucks a big volume of fuel and you will suck the gunk in with it, blocking your fuel lines, filters etc. If your really keen also worth getting a 2ndary small tank with filter etc.. so if your in a tight situation you can run of 2ndary tank.. then when you're out of the pickle you can sort out the primary.

@@SailingJibsea love it. CB is bigger with a lot going on, but more spread out. WB is a little nicer and a lot of stuff to do in a smaller, more compact area so easier for walking around. If yall find yourselves back here, ill happily shoot you recommendations

hey, you guys are both great, refreshing. So you ran aground....no big deal in sand/mud. I'm an experienced sailor on the west coast and I've hit rocks, some chartered, some not !!!! That is when you have to fret. You learn as you go and just hope that you can keep ahead of the challenges - you will do fine...you don't seem to panic and do the right things afterwards. Cheers

Really enjoying the opportunity to see the smaller 'hamlets' along the waterway. As per your thumbnail not much protection from storms etc. Must be more stringent building codes I'm thinking. Just curious, why were there so many grounded & abandoned boats as you sailed along? The Yanmar isn't giving up without a fight lol! They're a good motor so stick with it - will all get sorted.
@SailingJibsea3 жыл бұрын
Yeah! One of the best parts was visiting places you’d otherwise probably never stop at. We’re thinking they probably grounded or got damaged from storms? No idea but there are so many of them and it’s very costly to remove them

I just started watching and this video is 2 months old, so when are you going to clean out your fuel tank? Also, get a filter to clean the diesel before it goes into your fuel tank.
@clarkkent7723 жыл бұрын
Do you have a Racor 500 as your primary fuel filter? You should. Easy & cheap to change filter elements.

Well for noobs y’all doin pretty good 👍🏻 I’m curious the draft on your boat? I follow several couples doing the same kinda thing some sail boats but mostly 45’ to 75’ Nordhavn Yachts. Me being older I’d prefer the bigger boats but y’all have it goin on. Them iguanas are a nasty 🤢 lizard and they’re very pesky. They are invading Florida. I’m watching this on Christmas Eve so I’ll just throw this down. Wishing y’all a very Merry Christmas and be safe. I just started following y’all today.

Hey guys enjoying the videos. Myself and my GF planned to set sail this year but delayed it until next year due to covid. I have a moody 376 which is also a centre cockpit, I'm looking at installing my solar setup over the winter. How do your panels perform ontop of your bimini with the shade from the boom? I can't afford a solar arch so my options are flexible panels ontop of a bimini or mounting them on the guardrails, it would be good to know how well yours are doing with the boom shade.
@SailingJibsea4 жыл бұрын
Oh nice! Cant wait for you guys to set out on your adventure! It’ll be absolutely amazing. We had the same thought but last min said let’s give it a go and so far it’s working out. Fingers crossed we can get into the Bahamas lol! As for the solar panels, if we are at anchor it’s no problem, I’ll just pull the boom out of the way and tie it off. When we are sailing you’re at the mercy of how the sails are set and where the sun is. But that’s where our wind generator helps. Personally, we like the solar panels over the Bimini as it’s a cleaner look.

Everyone touches bottom their first time down the ICW. Often the second, third and fourth times too. If you can get yourself off of it without help it doesn't even count. If you can never need to use towboat insurance then count yourself fortunate. We were in Swansburo that crappy day when the hurricane remnants offshore blew up some wind. The boat anchored next to us was dragging and we got to watch them scrambling around on the foredeck getting soaked in 40kt+ gusts and driving rain as they put out more scope and eventually a second anchor. We were snug and dry watching from inside with 10:1 to begin with and had no problems. I bet being on a good mooring ball like those new ones in Carolina Beach was nice. We always anchor on the other side of that spoil island because we are cheap when there. But that means a LOOOONG dinghy trip if we go to town. It is long enough from the mooring field. We stayed insides on the because the weather window didn't look all that smooth to us and kept chugging away down the ditch all week. We are in Beaufort now and hope to be well into Georgia by tomorrow night. If the weather holds we will be in Vero Beach by next week. That's a nice place to hole up. Cruisers paradise in the US if the Bahamas aren't open.
@SailingJibsea4 жыл бұрын
We purchased some tow boat insurance and hope we never need to use it haha Wow you guys made it quite far fairly quickly. You’re ahead of us now. We are thinking of waiting for a weather window to head straight into florida from the outside to avoid the shallow areas after Charleston. Did you have any troubles in the ICW down that way?
@svbarryduckworth6284 жыл бұрын
We had no issues with depth at all. We inly draft 4'3" and this is our third trip down so we are pretty familiar with the drill and use the Bob423 tracks to help us in the blind spots. There were only two spots so far that we were conserned about due to shoaling because those can be confusing without good charts or a track. Lockwood's Folly is often a mess and the detour this year is similar to what it was before it was just dredged. That fix didn't last long. Shallotte is also nail-biting because of the zig-zags getting through there and the current pushing you towards the shoals. We had another new nail-biter this trip in Elliot's Cut just past Charleston because of a heavy current that had us crawling through that whole section at 1-1.5 knot, fighting it the whole way pushing us around nastily in that narrow cut. Never had an issue there before. We just hit it at a bad time. We don't bother waiting for weather windows at good inlets because we can usually make good time on the inside 60-70 or more nautical miles/day, as we average 7 knots, 7.5 if we want to push it. We also often run from first light to sunset when we need to cover a lot of ground. We have gone through Georgia in two days a couple of times -just running really long days.
@SailingJibsea4 жыл бұрын
Yes we were concerned about Lockwood Folly, the rock piles and Shallottes Inlet as well! We decided to do the outside to Charleston and again down to Florida as the weather looked decent. Now that we’re in Florida, we’ll continue on the inside
@svbarryduckworth6284 жыл бұрын
Can't wait to see the videos. We are right before St. Simon's Sound and will be in Florida tonight so you guys passed us back. You missed some beautiful scenery though. Georgia is amazing but there are many sticky spots too. We had just the crap charts that came with the B&G plotter the first time we did the ICW. It is a miracle we never went hard aground. Navionics was a good investment.

What kind of condition is the diesel tank in? Just wondering why the lines blocked when you gunned it. Could be rust, etc, out of the tank.
@nuttytraveller21753 жыл бұрын
yes, Trailing Arm is correct - if you've had a blocked fuel line - don't disregard it...it will come back to bite you....a blocked fuel line is the classic sign that you have something in your tank/s - rust, bad fuel, water, old fuel jelly crud, something that should not be there. Depending what it is, there are easy and not so easy methods to deal with it.
