The plaintiff says she and the defendant were friends and went on a cruise. Her son was involved in a horrific accident and she could no longer go, but the defendant took the plaintiff’s paid portion and gave it to someone else. She’s suing for her money back. The defendant says the cruise line canceled the reservation because the plaintiff stopped making payments. She had to scramble to find someone to cover the bill, and she owes nothing. She’s countersuing for vehicle damage and harassment.

I can’t speak for her, but when I was in my 20s, my boyfriend broke his neck and back in a bad fall. Absolutely nothing was certain. With a break like he had. Some people recover quite quickly, some are paralyzed for life. We were making plans like he would be out of the hospital in a month… because that was possible and you want to stay positive. Turns out it was more like a year before he could walk at all - but he did! Anyway… I’m just saying that if her child was older… maybe had a partner to care for him… perhaps she thought that by the time of the trip he would just be doing rehab appts and stuff, which is much less dire and stressful. So I don’t know. I’m kind of just talking out of my behind since I don’t know their specifics. But in my humble experience, those kind of accidents are not so black and white. (I will say though, that if it was my daughter I’d be dropping everything to be by her side so much that she would get annoyed and tell me to take a vacation 🤣)

Exactly why I roll SOLO even on a group cruise. I have had somebody stick me by cancelling so I paid for the double occupancy and had the cabin to myself. I never ask anybody to roll with me when I cruise now unless they are going to have their own cabin. I don't share hotel or cruise cabin space for exactly the reason these two were in court.
