Graceful. serene, gentle, peaceful and relaxing. Then comes the introduction to the blackness ahead hiding what potential dangers that the radar is unaware of. Brave people are mariners. My thanks to them all. That includes you Chris.🙌

My sentiments too when I watched my film back. Something magical about seeing these scene in the dark. When I first worked on the Severn as a 16yr old, long, long time ago, there were very few navigation lights, now look at it, lit up like a Christmas tree!

Although I can't imagine that their crews see it this way, but for me there is something almost romantic watching a ship departing at night. Thank you, Chris.

Hi Andrew, I totally agree, but as I always say, it is easy for us to steer that ship from the shore, not so easy for the man on the wheel.

Great video thanks. It reminds me of my time on coasters back in the 80s. Fond memories!

Chris, Another excellent film even more special as a night time sailing fully illuminated and showing not only the ship but the whole dock area. Thank you once again

Hi Keith, yes, a first for me, so very much an experiment, but I believe, like you, it looks good.

Hi Rob, Since a lad I have liked being out working through the night, but now, at my age ... I prefer to be in a warm bed!!

Very good Chris, thank you for being out on a cold night.

Hi John, It was cold that night, but being all alone alongside the piers was a pleasure, especially when I heard the owl.

Thanks Chris, your films are quite addictive! We see how the world quietly ticks, the owl hoots, while politicians huff and puff beyond!

I agree, being there alone last week made me think the same.

Great video as always what Drone do you use?

Thank you for the great video, Chris! One question: Is there a pilot on board/a pilot boat? Greetings from Hamburg/Germany
@ChrisWittsКүн бұрын
Hello Hamburg. Yes it is compulsory to have a pilot both inbound and leaving. The ship picks up the pilot off Barry, in the Bristol Channel and it is normally a 3 hour 20 minutes trip from there to Sharpness.

I didn’t realise you could get that close to the lock can anyone go and get that close or have you special permission would love to see it
@ChrisWittsКүн бұрын
Hi Tony, yes, it is a public area and there are a regular group of us watching the ships in and out. Daytime, but I fancied last week doing the night shots. It is a No Fly Zone for drones but I have been given permission by the CAA, Berkeley Power Stn and the Docks authority to fly mine at Sharpness.

@ thanks I will check it out if I can find a good time when a big ship is coming in and out as I have a camper van so could find some to park and stay overnight thanks again
