RE: Depth sounder Like airplanes, every component on a boat comes with an anxiety detector. The purpose of the anxiety detector is to relay to the component the degree of distress failure of the component will transmit to the master and crew. Many components have predictive anxiety detector routines that allow them to determine how much distress the master and crew will experience at some future time of failure. The chance of failure correlates directly with the amount of distress such failure will cause. All evidence points to the fact that the anxiety detector is a sub-molecular device invisible to the naked eye . . . or the fully clothed eye or X-rays or destructive inspection. The anxiety detector shares kinship with the printer scrambler that will jam, tear, or misprint important papers on the day they must be delivered. There is evidence that both are offspring of the copier malfunctionator. None can be turned off or disabled by God or man. I have multiple experiences with the anxiety detector in the air and on the water. When I say I feel your pain, I really, really do.
