I don't know if you got to see it, but behind the bar at Sitka's Pioneer Bar is a bunch of photos of boats stuck on rocks as testament to the approaches to the harbor, it looks like you had good charts.

What a treat to see you crossing a bridge that I built and walking on boardwalk I had a hand in too. I spent a month on Anan Creek building the trail back to the observatory. Good to see it holding up well. The bay is a great place for crabbing.

Thank you for making this video! Taking our dog from Houston to Belize and the potty challenge has thrown us. Your tips are spot on. I suggest keeping a spray bottle of vinegar handy for the stray dogs you come across. It’s the quickest (and least harmless) defense to protect against loose dogs. And it’s great for cleaning too. Safe travels!

Glad you enjoyed the video! Haven't heard of the vinegar trick before- that's a good one. Thankfully, in all our time in Mexico we only had one incident with a mean dog. Thanks for watching and fair winds!

What you needed to find that GoPro was a bright Pelican light, something like 1600 lumen, and a good experienced diver. He/she would have found that GoPro.

The GoPro is "water resistant" to about 3 meters for a brief period. I think that is GoPro's position. I think memory might survive the plunge though. Like the channel....good vibe.

I lost a Mini Pro 4 using those floatation attachments. It launched okay but it fell from the sky into the water once the drone was flying sideways. It hit the water hard and the foam floats detached from the brackets holding them. The drone sunk so no recovery possible. I did buy the DJI insurance so it was replaced for $230. Note: I had practiced flying with the floats attached over dry land without any problems.
@CruisingMayaАй бұрын
Sorry for your loss 😞. Yea those floats aren't very secured on the frame. I added a little hot glue between the frame and the pontoon to help keep them there.

Is it practical to take either a single or twin engine trawler on the same journey, to the Panama canal? (Eventually I want to end up in Florida. )
@CruisingMayaАй бұрын
Definitely! We met a number of people in Mexico who were traveling south via motor boat. You'd want to really trust your engine and have good mechanic skills for crossings east of Panama, but it's totally possible!

Thanks for the encouragement. It has been in my mind for awhile. My concern is for safe anchorages, safe travel, and the availability of diesel fuel.

Great Video Thanks. One recommendation on retrieving. You had the drone at head level. I think it should be higher than you for safety. Then you reach up and grab it. Also you didn’t discuss wind direction when retrieving. Just like take off it should be away from you so it doesn’t blow it into you. Just my opinions. Thanks again.

I’m also looking at similar trawlers up that way ( currently in Cali) how do you feel about those forty year old Taiwan trawlers with original teak decks? I’ve heard they can be terribly difficult to repair?

Excellent, as a Pacific Northwest boater myself with my partner, going forward a trawler is a good idea, obviously grand Banks is the grand choice, having said that what is your budget? Point to note if you are bringing a vessel down from Canada, the engine must have a EPA rated sticker, if it’s UL rated that’s rated for Europe or Canada

In our early 60’s we are keeping our sailboat for a few years while we can still actively sail. At some point I see us moving to a trawler so we can keep boating. We just returned from the southern Gulf islands, and I can’t really see us venturing to much further north in our sailboat. So I suspect that will wait until we hit trawler land.
