There is the SailAway simulation on Steam or on their web store with a large monitor and good set of current headphones like a hyperX you could well chill in that game there is a demo available on sailaway.world/ For me being landlocked its the closet I can get also reading and watching wonderful videos like this.

67, both of us disabled, but as a lifetime biker/camper, I get the purity of it watching these. Pulling a 4' trailer behind the highly modified Harley, we "sail" the highways, moor in the campgrounds or just stream or lakeside spots we can find, and set up our "galley", gear tent,main tent with extra tarps for extended vestibule (the porch"), and of course, the head is never too far off. Many camp people are really good sorts to meet, otherwise, I enjoy solitude.

I have to compliment Martin on these unique, voyage-long, videos. They provide a kind of continuity lacking in episodic videos so common on KZbin. He give us a real feeling for the rhythm, beauty, the daily regimen and even the occasional drudgery of a long passage like this. Very well done! Cheers Martin!

What a joy your video is! I’ve sailed much larger yachts (53’-76’’) most of my life and lost much of the joy when considering the maintenance, costs and hassle. You’ve got me thinking about the possible joys of a smaller vessel. I needed this video. Thank you so much!
@mjambo6973 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. A few years ago, I have made my decision to keep my Jambo and not going for a larger boat. The reasons are as you listed them, costs, hassle and also it can be handled easier even with higher age. At the end of the day, I miss a meter boat’s length. However, I think with every size you miss that meter. Jambo is small but sufficient for a couple. If we get visitors I would look to rent some storage space to place a few things there, whilst the visitors cruise with us. Kind regards 😀⛵⛵
@lifeenvironments3 жыл бұрын
I think 34’ would be somewhat of a challenge - and Biggerboatitis will always be a problem. That said, after a lifetime of tech development and sailing much larger yachts, there is a great deal of praise to be had for simpler and less complicated - in both life and boats. Many of the sailors I know with larger yacht experience eventually end up sailing much smaller boats and rave about the unfettered experience of being closer to the water. You are smiling in so many of your videos. That speaks volumes. Fair winds.
@patricklaine69584 жыл бұрын
That looked like a textbook Trade Wind crossing --- expertly sailed. I guess you did not get the memo that Bavarias are not suitable for ocean passages. I liked your 'feedback loop' with bungee cords. I tried several variations on that theme --- good enough to get home, but far from perfect. Bravo.
@mjambo6974 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Patrick. I must have overlooked that memo as usually! Yes, the bungee steering is a good emergency autopilot in a break down situation. This was the downwind solution. Upwind I just set the helm in a fixed position and it is balanced by the list and the tendency of the shipp running into the wind. Thanks a lot and best regards 😀⛵⛵

Amazing and inspirational video! Thanks Martin. That's a Bavaria 34 Holiday, right? Obviously Martin's an expert skipper but I hadn't heard that Bavaria's aren't suitable for long passages. Do I need to change my plans/dreams? :D

@Peter Rahill In French, we say something like, "Bonne nav" as the equivalent of Fair Winds. ('Fair winds' in French is mildly rude, as it is used in common speech to mean 'get lost' or 'good riddance'.)

Thank you for this video Martin which I much enjoyed. About 30 years ago my wife and I crossed the Atlantic from the Canaries to Antigua in our 50 foot teak ketch Mutineer. So your video brought back many memories. We had made friends with a German sailor whose name I sadly forget and he also crossed the Atlantic solo in his steel yacht at about the same time. In the middle of one night while is was sleeping, he sailed into the side of a large ship. He and his yacht were fine and the ship he ran into didn't stop or even notice what had happened. You were very wise to keep the careful watches that you did! Anyway Martin, I'm now subscribed to your channel so look forward to your further adventures and I wish you good fortune in all your travels...

I've watched about ten ocean crossings, on small sailboats, with one sailor, and this was the best. It was very informative, and finally, someone explained the sleeping situation, which I think is most important. I've seen Martins' sail, from Martinique to Germany, which was also good, tho left me with questions, that this video answered. Thanks

. . . . na du weißt ja was ich meine ! Herbert aus der schönen Südsteiermark Ps: Eine Gitarre fehlt auf deinem Boot, wäre Romantik pur, Sonnenuntergang etc. ich habe auch erst mit 64 zum Gitarrespielen angefangen !

Bravo! Just subscribed! You are a very courageous man sailing across the Atlantic single handed. So many hazards but you managed it well. I love your coffee maker and bread machine and cooking! Wonderful visit from the whales and the drone shots are awesome. Nevermind you caught no fish, you can't do it all but you did everything else like a hero. Pity no births available but just drop the anchor, that's the joy of sailing, your home is anywhere you need it to be! I enjoyed watching you drinking your beer. You drank it like the most expensive and well earned beer in the world!! Bon voyage and may you have many more successful trips. God bless and take care. 🍺😊👍
