It seems very similar sailing to Pacific Northwest, Inside Passage, Hecate Strait, etc. Nice to be able to dodge the cold and enter the warmth up north. Joshua Slocum sailed much of that water in "Spray". I really enjoyed the trip & Good Luck from an old sailor now on the Canadian prairie.

Awesome vid. Great editing. If only my yacht would head further than a couple of miles out. I'm sure it's not me, got to be the boat. :)

Hi Brenton, Like yr videos very much as I have Nic-38 'Sea Eagle' here in Cardiff Bay-UK. Got some questions for you...I'd like to know the make, & rated output of your solar panels you have there. Are you happy with them or not.? What output do you actually get from them on a cloudy day & do they keep up with the fridge consumption etc.? If not happy with them, what would you replace them with.? I'm going to try & retain the view through the skylights upwards if possible but of course that means smaller solar panels. What do you recommend.? Thanks a lot mate, Jeff
@BrentonWalkerSailing8 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff, I'm happy u liked the video. I have 2 x 85W solar panels, I also have 2 x wind generators, 3 x 85amp/hr deep cycle house batts and 1 x 105amp/hr cranking batt. The solar panels pretty much keep up with the fridge providing approx 7 - 9 amps on a good day, 3 - 5 amps on a not so good day ( These figures are for the 2 solar panels combined ) Between the wind gens and the solar panels, I rarely have to run the motor to provide charge for the batteries. That said, I'm a full time live-aboard cruiser, so the motor runs when underway every now and then. In relation to the skylights... personally speaking, not being able to see up through them is not an issue, I just lean out a little to check sail trim etc. In my opinion, i'd go for the biggest solar panels you can mount. Unfortunately with a Nic 38, you don't have a lot of options in relation to where you can mount them. With the solar panels you buy these days, i'm pretty sure you could mount 2 x 100W panels atop the cockpit roof, providing of course you do away with the skylights. Hope this helps.

I've got the same boat as you and looking to run my lines aft as you have that run under the windscreen to clutches and winch inside the cockpit, did you install this? would love to know more or even if you didn't it would be amazing to to have a close up video showing the set up through the windscreen! :D
@BrentonWalkerSailing4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kathryn, The lines you refer too ( Vang and 2 x reefing lines passing under the windscreen ) were in situ when I purchased the boat. That said, I would be happy to take a few still shots for you so you can take a closer look at the set up. May I suggest you provide an email address so I can fwd some pics to you.

@@jasonh2469 Before you go out and spend any moola on a boat, I strongly suggest you head to a yacht / sailing club and get yourself a ride on a yacht. Most clubs have race events both in the sailing season and off season. Most skippers are only to happy to introduce aspiring sailors to sailing. When selecting a boat for whatever purpose you're going to use it, you're going to need to acquire some knowledge so you then can make an informed decision about the design of boat that best suits you. What you don't want is to make a decision that you end up regretting. By hanging out with people that sail, asking questions, doing some research and experiencing as many different types of boats that you can, you'll end up placing yourself in a position where you'll have a good opportunity to make a good decision. Whatever your ambition... Plant the seed, manifest the idea, focus on your goal and work towards it. The journey begins when the idea is born and you decide to set the wheels in motion. Enjoy the ride my friend, and remember...the journey can easily be as exciting and as rewarding as the destination itself.

Hi there young man,,,, that anchor must be pretty good in weed etc, is it factory made or home made,,, thanks
@BrentonWalkerSailing8 жыл бұрын
+colin rat Ahoy, Yes this anchor, referred to as a Marsh or Stockless, is very good on a weedy bottom, also works well in sand, not much good in soft mud. To answer your question... I purchased this anchor from a chandlery in South Australia. I'm pretty sure they are manufactured in Western Aust. Hope this helps :)

Beautiful things must be enjoyed slowly and quietly. Your scenes are too short and quick and the soundtrack hampers the mystery of discovering.
