My fiancé and I are just starting our sailing adventure. We are currently living in Toronto and the last year we having been doing research on sailing and living aboard. We also took sailing lessons during the summer. We hope to buy our boat this spring and start living aboard full-time then. Our plan is also in a couple of years to sail down to the Caribbean and then the rest of the world - after we fine tune our sailing and maintenance skills in the GTA. It is very inspiring to see your journey and we have binged watched your KZbin channel in the last month. Good luck on your adventures an we cant wait to see the rest of your journey!

Well I'll tell you one thing. I wish I had a companion out here with me. I wish you and your wife all the best! All I can say is do it! Find your sailboat of choice and live the dream! I've met so many along the way that chose this life but didn't untie the lines and actually go. It's a hard thing to do just up and leave. But so worth it. We only live once and everyday ashore is a lost day! Every single peice of gear on this boat has needed fixing at one point. Have the right tools and be prepared to dig into your engine bay at any moment. For example my fridge defrosted this morning and seems to be inoperable. I'll have to spend the day working on that. One other thing. Get all the things your wife will need.. creature comforts.. she could get scared off quick the moment things go wrong and they will. You have to be a certain type of resilient person. Sailing will test your relationship so start with a good foundation of knowledge. But in the end this life jouney will bring you guys closer than ever. Don't just jump into the 1st sailboat you find. Get the right one. The 1st day I saw EV on the hard I was in love and she has taken care of me. To think I actually almost purchased a piece of junk. Know your boat before you go. Especially the engine!!!!!!!! The engine is the most important saftey consideration! You have inspired my next video. You have given me the energy to get up and move on. Thanks for commenting this means everything to me. I hope to see you guys out there one day soon. Fair winds and following seas. Cap'n MiKL

Thanks for the inspiration! These comments mean everything to me. I've made it to Florida and are on the Palm coast. The videos are going to change a bit for the better I hope. More story telling and shots of my surroundings. Some of the best experiences in my entire life have all happened in the last bit here. I really hope that transmits to the videos. I'm so close to the day I cross the gulf stream! With in a week or so! I really like all the comments because I hate to admit I feel a bit lonely out here maybe that will change coming up! Thanks for the comment

Buddy boating is pretty difficult when there is 2 different boats that need different things such as draft, height etc. I always look at what's best for my boat and crew first. Unless you know the other guys well, it's always a risk you will be following a plan you are less comfortable with. All the best.

Your opening statement in this episode resonated with me. For me I am a year behind you in terms stepping foot on a boat, but have already done a lot of reading of so many sailing books, and have made the plans to get there. Currently just slowly making my way towards that big purchase to a new course in life. Just that, recently, I was laid off temporality (I hope) from my VFX job, so there will be a delay in the purchase time frame. I cant wait to have the same smile you have going over those swells. oh boy. :-) Thanks for all the effort you put into these videos, it is much appreciated.

Vfx eh? I'm IATSE 667 camera. I need a vfx person. Looking to make some graphics showing where I'm coming from and going to on maps. Kinda like Indiana Jones or something.. any thoughts? As well maybe I shouldn't have used the word Hell in my thumbnail. Someone just unsubscribed. There has been alot of people quoting scripture in the comment section.. maybe not a great idea.. lol. If your serious about making the change and living on a sailboat I have some tips for you. We should email. I'll tell ya it's been great so far but single handing has been tough. Wish I had a woman with me... just my 2 cents..

@@sailingEV888 Hi Mike, I tried to post my email, but it was blocked, I think in my YT channel it shows my website, which leads to my business email address, so if you want to see what I can do for you, VFX wise or elsewise, try there. But, I would suggest something you can easily do now. Find OSB Studio and record your screen, and pipe in your narrations on top. You will have a clean screen capture of the maps you show and good audio for it too.

You wondered why your friends in the Oyster were so far out, could it have been to avoid the dreaded lobster pots ? Also maybe I didn’t get it from your video but it didn’t seem like all that difficult a passage ?

Sailing at night us a mental game. When that sun goes down fear sets in. You can't see what's ahead and just have to trust your charts. It was terrifying. Looking back now that was my longest passage yet. Tomorrow I'm doing the big push to the Caribbean!! Charlston to Jacksonville or beyond!! The key is just to trust your boat and let her get you there.. Thanks for commenting

I know the feeling. One thing I can say is find the right sailboat! So crucial! Once you untie the lines it's going to be just you and her. EV has been good to me. Don't skimp out. Get a capable proven boat with the right saftey gear. I'm here to give you tips and details all you have to do is ask. Life is good out here and I've learned a ton. Just a matter of will now and time behind the helm!!

@@Inamorata.367 it's been tough. I've run aground like 50 times. I had to wait for high tide just to get through a section today. It's been fun to turn off the engine and sail through all the twists and turns. Kinda like a sailing game. I'm just happy to be somewhere warm. As Steve Cantwell one if my subs said I've paid the piper" just a matter of time now and sheer will. Long days at the helm will pay off one of these days..

@@sailingEV888 if you're staying on the ICW from Charleston, be mindful of Elliotts Cut. It is a narrow channel ( 30 yrds wide ) with severe current. When we went through in 2019, I did not consider the tides carefully enough and ended up trying to motor up this narrow channel against a 5 knot current. If I lost the bow we would end up on the rocky shore. It was one of the scariest parts my our journey south. Make sure you go through it on slack tide. Happy to see you've made it to SC !
