Barry, well done! Glad you got there safely but that was pretty scary! Need to sort out your cockpit drains and electric and manual bilge pumps. If got caught out in a bad storm and you had multiple waves breaking over the boat would be in real trouble especially out there on your own. You are not getting any younger - make it easier on yourself!

To be fair, scuppers and bilge pumps will drain water but only at a finite rate. A rogue wave can dump a thousand litres of water on your boat in less than a second. You can't wait for the drains to clear it in case another one comes along. You have to get it off as quickly as possible by whatever means.

Good question. They often get blocked (either with barnacles from below or debris from above) so that may be the explanation.
