Great videos Michael, I remember when I lived in Florida sailing to the Keys, Marquesas, Cuba, and Bahamas in my Pearson 26, then we move to Spain,bought a 42 ft motor sailor, I had to sell it after few years, because of a heart problem, am getting the itch again, and I'm buying a Leisure 17. Keep it up. Sylvester ( SLY )

Nice sailing, nice boat and one of the best sailing videos on. Great job. I have a feeling you will have more sailing adventures on your boat that most people will have on their larger boats.

Your videos inspire me. I've been wanting a trailer-able Sailboat and have been discounting anything other than at least 23 feet. I have liked several in the 19 foot length, for several different reasons, but felt they must be too small. You have proved that thought to be flawed. Soo great to see you let your son learn as he enjoys sailing.. Even to allow him hook up the trailer. Awesome.

I went there in the '80s in a Compac 16, no phone, no GPS, no motor. I loved it. Bigger boats kept asking if I needed help. I declined the help, but asked for any spare ice. I pretty much lived on , mangrove snapper and hog snapper There was a man living on a houseboat inside the island ring, called the "Mayor of the Marquesas".
@AllenMichaelsVlogs5 жыл бұрын
TomJeffersonWasRight that’s very cool. I’d think navigating would be way more difficult
@tomjeffersonwasright22885 жыл бұрын
I did navigate, by chart, compass, lead line, DR, and I had visual contact with the islands all the way. I am a professional Master Mariner (Captain). and know GPS and celestial navigation as well, but the small boat is unstable for accurate sights, and I could always see the next island. I was headed for the Dry Tortugas, but heavy weather moved in, and I returned to Key West. It was just as well, because it blew hard for a month, and my supplies were limited. Many of the modern current charts we have are based on the old whaling captains observations. They compared their dead reckoning position with their celestially determined position, and attributed the difference to currents. Their accuracy still has not been surpassed. Thanks for a great video.

Sigh...... Looks like a great trip! Do you know of anyone who has been to Dry Tortugas via small boat? I sailed the Bahamas on a 23' with absolutely no problems, and, with the right weather, would not hesitate to take the compac 16. However, having been there, I think I'd rather do a trip to Dry Tortugas just for the fun of it! What do you do for running lights on a small boat?

@@AllenMichaelsVlogs Really?!? That's awesome! I'm hoping to make Tern comfortable enough to do a trip like that. Just one step at a time.... saw a guy spent a month in the Bahamas with his two kids on a WWP 15. Just got an 80w solar panel and working on the mounting..... Probably way overkill, but with the water heater and jets for the cockpit Jacuzzi and all.....lol

@@michaelbowman4607 you wouldn't have any issues sailing compac 16 to dry Tortugas or the Bahamas. Of course you would need appropriate life raft a satellite phone with the weather reports etc. Etc.

@@michaelbowman4607 I use AA Led system for all my lights. I use a 5lb 12 volt battery for a fan and to charge the phone etc. I have a small solar panel that can charge the phone. My trips are typically no more than 2 days away from the shore so no solar panels for now

S/V AIRPOWER I launched on Stock Island. The boat ramp is by Shell gas station on Key Haven Rd and hwy 1. I arranged to park at Murray Marine for their standard launching fee. Unfortunately couldn't launch at their ramp due to low hanging wire. Let me know if you need any additional information. Good luck!

Thinking about buying a siren 17 sailboat "ready togo" for 700.00. is this a good first sailboat and is that a fair price?
@AllenMichaelsVlogs6 жыл бұрын
Pa Coal Miner if you are willing to put in a lot of work and money into it then yes. There are many factors to consider when buying a sailboat. I'm not sure what you are looking to do with it. But I can tell you $700 will not buy you a turnkey sailboat that you can enjoy.
