Hey guys, just discovered your channel in the last couple of days, and love what your doing, great travel vlogs, well produced and edited. What a fantastic way to travel! I did a bit of sailing myself, back in 2004, having left England with nothing but a bicycle, a tent and a camera; I´d just got divorced and given up everything I had worked for a lifetimes dream of adventure on the open road; letting life come as it will, with no plans and nowhere to be other than where I was. I cycled across Europe and hooked up with a friend in Greece, and after spending a couple of weeks bumming around on the beach, met a guy who was sailing single handed and gave me the chance of a lifetime, to crew for a month around the Greek islands. the boat was the same as your first, a 46 ft Beneteau. I´d never sailed before, and it was only a short time but we had a lot of adventures; sailing gull winged through the gulf of Patras between the Peloponnese and the Greek mainland with a 30 knt meltemi blowing, dodging tug boats and oil tankers through the Corinth canal, dotting round the Aegean islands. Coming into harbour under full sail and having to drop everything and bang the boat in reverse to dodge an out-coming hydrofoil.. I´m sure you know what I mean about greek ferries! I was away for 6 months and going back to the UK, life was never the same. So I left the UK and have been living in Norway for the last decade or so, holding down a regular job and travelling the world as much as I can with my girlfriend here. Social media did n´t exist then as it does now, so there are no records of the stuff I did except a bunch of photos and a head full of memories. But now, coming into the dark, cold Norwegian winter, seeing what you´re doing really takes me back out there; so thanks for that :) So now I´m gonna go back and watch some of your earlier adventures :) Keep up the good work, stay safe and happy travels! all the best!

Elayna, I liked how you briefly commented on how you were going to maneuver the boat off the wall where you were docked. I'd like to see more videos of how you and R operate your boat when out at sea. I like the technical side and it's worth showing to other sailors out there. Keep up the great work!!

I went from Corsica to Amalfi, then Sicily (Cefalú) and back up to Sardinia last August, with very little wind and a group of seven on a 40 ft Dufour, in 14 days. A lot of motoring (at 4kn) and watches, and not so much of the wonderful islands and people ... I can say unequivocally: you are doing it the right way!

Ah Sardinia to Sicily, did that one. Made the mistake of opening the hatch to my forward cabin. In flew a bird that proceeded to shed its feathers and shit all over my double berth. What a lovely welcome package after two days at the helm when all you want to do is lie down and take a nap. Anyway, top stuff.

Glad you free dived. Hard to beat Elayna swinging on the sail. How deep did you dive. Looked like 20 meters? Wish you caught that fish. That will make the new Lavega broken in. I see from a florida dealer that has been on a few vlogs that the normal in European boats being sold do not have AC. I may be a nice thing to do when you get into that southern caribbean. The guy that has the most experience that I know is Rick at Ambient Real Life. I have seen him tear into things and is certified in that field. I feel for him as I am a HVAC guy in Texas with the A and C meaning commercial class Process heating and cooling and AC unlimited class. Rick has gained my respect by seeing him deal with it for many years. Those sunset captures are superb. The swinging above the trampoline is what those trampolines are for.

“They’re from Germany” *Dutch flag waving in the back* nice try Daniel. We still love and miss you hope you’re having fun sailing on your own out there
@williamjohn905 жыл бұрын
so I did some research because I was wondering about the same thing. the company that was heavily promoted on the boat (koppert biological systems) is incorporated in Straelen, Germany. The town is in Western Germany directly at the border of the NL. From Straelen the Dutch sea is closer than the North sea in Germany. So it may very well be Germans sailing under the Dutch flag.
@izzythom52435 жыл бұрын
The flag is representative of the country that the boat was registered and insured in, known as a 'Flag of convenience', like my Grandad used to have a little yacht and sailed under a French flag but he is English.

Came from Van Life videos. Elayna's music choices for the videos are epic. So let me get this straight: you went from Italy to French Polynesia, then flew back to France. Then back to the Western Hemisphere, then back to Portugal, then back to the Caribbean? Dammit Riley, you haven't gone around anything yet, let alone the world! You going in circles son...oh, but what circles they are...

So what is your oldest memorie of being on the water , how young was ya , what got ya so intrigued to do this , ya must have a love for the sea. I almost bought a house boat on a lake called 10 mile lake,just out of flourence on the oregon coast. The constant motion and the squeeeks changed my mind, would have been fun for awhile I suppose.
