It this was your work, Maya, and I believe it was, it is videography of the highest order. You brought out Aladino's attention to detail and professionalism perfectly, without losing the humanity of the man. His addresses to camera are natural, and engaging. Occasional references to the world outside set him in context, and the whole process had a beginning, a middle and an end. A perfectly crafted story. Together with well chosen music that never takes centre stage. Masterful. How far you have travelled , both of you. Much admiration!

"a bit of a perfectionist" he says. Ya think!? Watching you work, to me, is as orchestrated and inspiring as the music Maya creates. The look in your eyes and the concentration in your face is as masterful as it gets. Pretty sure Duckworks is going to benefit by the updates and comments you deliver to the Scout manual. Well done Sir!

Undoubtedly, many of your viewers build boats but that does not make us boat builders. You, Aladino are a master of your craft and have earned the right to call yourself a Boat Builder. With Leo, you are at the top of the heap, in a class of your own and your workmanship is an inspiration to the rest of us who can only strive to achieve your level of perfection. Your Scandinavian summer cruise was fun to watch but I am ever so glad to see you back building boats.

This is very interesting to me. I built my first dinghy, an OK Dinghy, nearly 60 years ago when I was 18. Hard chine, but a very different construction method - frames and stringers. As soon as I saw the intro, I wondered if I could have built my OK using the same construction technique as the Scout. It wouldn't have passed class rules, but ... Many years later, I built an A-Class catamaran out of 3mm ply using the tortured ply method and stitch-and-glue for the "keel line". There are very high stresses in the tortured ply method and I needed less than mm precision, so I used copper wire instead of cable ties, and the spacing between ties was 50mm to 75mm. The join line was strengthened with 100mm fibreglass tape and epoxy. I'm interested in the differences and the similarities.

It has always amazed me when I see, on line, large motor yachts with rowing machines on board. They are missing such a trick. Exploring anchorages in a dingy is one of the greatest pleasures of cruising. Exercise, green and fun. If you have youngsters on board you will never get them out of a dingy and there is no better way to learn. Sadly I am getting a bit old for playing in dingies so I will watch you instead.😀

Still consistently amazed by Aladino’s craftsmanship. This one felt a lot more documentary like, but I felt it suited the contents of the video more than your standard movie style. If you guys ever need something to do in retirement (Other than sailing, that is), a lot of local museums or companies would probably love you all to help restore their vessels. It’s also interesting how many boats are being made by CNC Routers and other automated manufacturing techniques now. The technological progression in sailing alone between 1823 and 2023 is probably more than the previous 900 years. While that may be true, it obviously hasn’t diminished the need for craftsmanship, as Aladino has so wonderful demonstrated. Can’t wait for the conclusion to this miniseries! Fair winds, -J

A bit off topic but do Folk recall that about 8 months ago there was a episode titled “Around The World Without GPS: Kirsten Neuschafer” who was frantically working on her Cape George to have the boat ready for the Golden Globe Race. Well she is currently leading the race, having rounded Cape Horn a couple of days ago and is currently just off the Falklands. What an incredible Lady and showing what a Cape George is capable of. Am rooting for her.

I have built a CS20 hull with stich and glue technique. I used wire, not zip ties. I bought all my supplies from an old class mate who has a boat yard. I do not know why but he had me use just a paint brush to apply the appoxy and glass cloth. It was slow and painstaking but I had absolutely no air bubbles. In the initial scene of the video you had plank joints with rather big gaps. I had no gaps at all. After stiching I made fillets on the in side with thickened epoxy, leaving gaps only where the wires were. When the fillets were cured I removed the wires and filled in the gaps in the fillets with hardened epoxy. After this I applied glass weave strips over the fillets. When the inner keel plank and the bulkheads and other inner structure was installed with joints filleted and covered with fiber glass weave bands, the entire interior was coverecd with glass cloth. After this was completed I turned tghe hull over with help of a couple of friends. Then the outside of the hull was sanded fair, the keel pland added and then glassed over and painted. Turned over again I built the deck structure and seat hatches. After having cut all the deck panels I made a paus in the project. Unfortunately I have not yet resumed the project. It has now been 15 years. Recently I retired. I think I need to re-start the project and complete the boat so that I can finally go sailing.

VERY NICE BUILD so far! I’ve never seen a puzzle-joint like that used on joining plywood pieces together, but it seems to be a very strong joint and has lots of gluing surfaces to make it stronger. When limited time and resources are major factors in any project like that, going with a premade kit seems to be the ONLY logical option to complete the individual tasks for a finished project. In the end of the sandwich tasks, it seems that your method was/is the better method to use for long term success and it produces a better end product.

FAAAABULOUS! These next 3 weeks will be the longest of my life, as I anticipate the completion of the dingy...and I do have a life so...that is how excited I am. I have been deep-sea fishing on numerous occasions but never on a sailing vessel. The truth of the matter is, is I tend to get a bit sick from the motion. This obstacle however enhances the experience, as I live vicariously through your adventures. What impresses me the most, is your devotion to one another's happiness. You are a SUPER craftsman ! I have done a lot of boatbuilding with West Epoxy (mine is NOT NEARLY as good as you). West has different thickeners… for different purposes. I have read (I think from them) to not thicken with sawdust because it steals resin. I know that Sven and lots of builders use dust, but I have started listening to the manufacturers when not too expensive. All the best.
