This is one of my favourite sailing channels ! I like that you are down to Earth and honest about what works out well for you and what doesn't and also because you keep it nice and simple and don't go into lengthy explanations about your issues. I would love to see you get more support so you can put more money into the boat because you really deserve it ! I have been following you for many years and have seen you struggling on many occasions to sort your boat out and I wish you all the best for the future !

Thank you for the kind words, and we appreciate that you have been watching so long. We love seeing our regular viewers' names pop up here to discuss the projects that we are always working on. We forever appreciate the moral support, advice, and material support. We literally could not have done anything we have accomplished so far without all this help - even though it looks like we're struggling sometimes, we definitely cannot complain about how awesome our supporters have been!

Yes - we were SUPER lucky to get all this paint for these projects. Looking forward to getting into the specifics of the budget in upcoming videos too.

The real problem with the dingy was that you fiber glassed over the gel coat paint, you needed to sand all the way down to the fiber glass, and by the looks of it you're doing it again...
@lennym16362 ай бұрын
And fiberglass needs a ruff surface to stick too not a smooth surface, that is if you want it to really stick...
@sailorama2 ай бұрын
Yes I can assure you that the dinghy did get a thorough sanding although it did not seem interesting to film at the time 😆 It was made ultra thin, too thin - probably a mold on top of an actual Fatty Knee dinghy, so I wanted to leave as much material as possible. In my experience, well-sanded gelcoat never has adhesion problems, it's just a philosophical question of whether one wants to bond to a surface layer rather than the proper fiberglass layer...the problem has definitely been too thick fiberglass cloth for the job.

Use a pastry filling bag to squirt the epoxy into the holes you made.
@sailorama2 ай бұрын
Yes this is an idea for thickened epoxy. We found it faster to just pour straight from the cup we mixed in.

Good job on the deck painting. It looks like you did a complete job that will last. Three coast of paint and a barrier coat, it made my repainting Hogfish's deck last fall look pretty weak. Hey, on the windows, consider just using UHB tape and sikaflex. It what I did on my boat. I'ts what they do on new boats. Its easy, looks clean, and if done properly is safe. Just an idea!
@mngbennett2 ай бұрын
I would also recommend VHB tape and Dow 795 for surface mounting poly or acrylic windows. I did this on my boat and if you can find the products it works well. I think they might have glass windows (which don't get the UV damage plastic ones do) so surface mounting might not be suitable.

We did this too and will do it again on our "new" sailboat
@sailorama2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the tips! We may do this because we're having issues with the sealant for the first set of windows you saw us install. We'll look for that tape!

What month are you there painting & working on your boat? Is there a drier time? We are interested in doing some boat work. We too, have some crackling spots in our "new" 50-year old sailboat. We also have some portlights to replace. We have the acrylic but need time & weather. You know how that goes :)
@sailorama2 ай бұрын
As far as I can tell it's always wet here 😂 We arrived in July with aggressive lightning storms every night like clockwork, now the weather has changed to wet mist everyday all day, and when we were here December-January a couple of years ago, it was cold and rainy throughout those months. I just checked the charts, and dry weather should be Feb, March, April.
