Finest dingy ever! Great progress all round, sure hope Robbie finds some random glasses in his travels until he gets back!

Haha - he did find some random glasses eventually, luckily!

I live in a parallel universe to you guys but instead of howler monkeys (which we did have at a resort zoo when I was a kid) now it's squealing wild pigs and crazies doing donuts in cars at the harbor parking lot at 3 in the morning @sailorama

You may try inserting a wood pole inside the dinky mast, or a pvc or conduit pipe to make it strong! It could then double as a jib pole in light wind...

You both are my favorite sailor couple. Live the new dingy.

I love the paint job on the interior of your dinghy. Good job! Glad you could take advantage of affordable glasses. We have been using Zenni for many years.

Thanks so much! 😊 Yes, Zenni is also a great website for glasses.

@18:10 not only will it be faster at lower rpm, it will coast longer when no power is applied, it will also go in a straight line easier, so it will be easier to row. The more hydro dynamic shape and the skeg help with all these things. BTW beautiful paint job on that dinghy Justine 👍

Love the dingy. The trees are full of nuts! Last season on the first night of a week long trip my son flicked a leaf off my head and sent my brand new pair of progressive transition glasses to the bottom of sea.

Haha, love that - the trees are full indeed! Sorry to hear about your glasses as well.

Glad I found your channel! My dream dinghy is a fatty knees 7-expensive, hard to find. So-just bought a cheap 7’ unknown sailing dinghy that needs a lotta work. (Rig is complete) Thanks for the inspiration to get started! I’m legally blind without corrective lenses, & see better with semi rigid gas permeable contacts-which are a pain in the cornea. Thanks for the info on how hard it is to get stuff in Guatemala. I’m currently stocking in advance of sailing away from US in my Tartan 34.
@sailorama3 күн бұрын
Welcome! Yes, it's definitely an ongoing theme on this channel that boatwork in exotic places is complicated by not having access to materials 😂 Cheers and good luck on your own dinghy project - it can be truly rewarding!

I paid almost 900$ for my glasses the last time. I will check out firmoo for sure. PS.. nice dingy
@sailorama4 күн бұрын
Yes - they are a great way to go - low cost, and glasses arrive within days (in the USA). Even with customs costs in Guatemala it’s more cost effective to get them from a place like Firmoo. 👍

I spent the extra for titanium frames back in 2004, three prescriptions later still using the same frames, just had the glass replaced when my prescription changed, very light weight and strong, I insisted on titanium frames for my sunglasses in 2016 and am very happy with them too. Another suggestion buy some cheap sunglasses from a "dollar store" style shop, I found this was the most economical source for spare nose pads, screws and other spare parts for your glasses. Jut make sure you find the cheap sunglasses with nose pads, it doesn't matter the glasses style you're not wearing them, also buy a few pairs and keep them aside for their parts.
@sailorama3 күн бұрын
Nice! What we have been finding these days is that the frames cost nothing - a couple of dollars at most (and we can even just heat shrink them back together if we don't find parts 😂). The problem has been finding someone who will make affordable lenses, really.
@daveamies50313 күн бұрын
@@sailorama Unfortunately affordable lenses are the problem everywhere, the plastic ones are vulnerable to chemicals as Robbie found out with the acetone. Glass ones are more prone to breaking when dropped, but can be polished clean from paint and other chemicals, nothing's perfect like with boats lens choices are a compromise 👍

They did a great job, exceptionally VERY GOOD. But what you did with the Dinghi was art. It was a Chinese job. P.S. Hispanic American expression to refer to hard, meticulous work with great patience, IT WAS A CHINESE WORK. 🇨🇦🎉👏👏
@sailorama3 күн бұрын
Oh thanks! I never heard that expression before. In english, we call the boats with the particular kind of full batten sails Chinese junks - which can be awesome little sailing vessels, even though it sounds kinda strange - so I assumed it was something like that 😁
@njbaskipper3 күн бұрын
@sailorama During the last 70 years there is a big difference between mainland China and Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) the latter is characterized by its excellent works, an example: Designers 🇺🇸 established sales records in their time with designs of sports boats such as the Hans Christian, LordNelson, CT Formosa, Union, etc etc and all canoe stern designs. They were all made in Chinese Taipei, hence the expression THEY DID A CHINESE JOB. While 🇺🇸 went to China, two Canadians 🇨🇦 Cuthbertson & Cassian settled on the east coast of the USA making successes with their C&C designs they also made Chinese work (Quality) P.S. Hans Christian Cía still exists. upon request.
