Bo is absolutely correct about the mechanism that makes the lens turn in the Elbow Reef Lighthouse. I heard it takes 426 turns or "crinkes" to raise the weight that turns the lens and it has to be re-raised every two hours. And it is the last hand cranked petroleum vapour lighthouse remaining.

Terysa, I think you have said that you are the main video editor. I watched this video twice. The first time was to just enjoy the adventure. The second time was to look at the editing and composition. You should be proud. What an excellent job you are doing. Enjoy England.

Thanks for showing what is happening with the coral. The reefs are dying at alarming rates and people just don't want to hear about it. We've been trying to talk about what we've witnessed over the past decade and we usually just get blank stares. But we have to keep the conversation going.
@SailingTranquilityBay7 жыл бұрын
As long as we can sustain the conversation without boring people, maybe they'll wake up before it's too late.

Great stuff.. As a novice who is starting to seriously think of doing what you are doing, I'm sure I've got all the questions most people have in this position..
@simonf97237 жыл бұрын
Sailing Yacht Ruby Rose Thanks.. I think the first question is about how much experience you need before buying a boat and setting off. I know some very good sailors who have no papers and sailed once with someone with a Coastal Skipper Cert who I'd never get on a boat again with.. I'm guessing the RYA certs are needed for insurance etc and more knowledge and experience is better than less. Suspect as with most things sailing the answer is a big 'it depends..'
@simonf97237 жыл бұрын
Sailing Yacht Ruby Rose Thanks. I guess the most basic question relates to experience needed to go cruising without being a danger to oneself and others. I'd assumed that a RYA Coastal Cert at the very least since that's what's usually needed for chartering..
@simonf97237 жыл бұрын
Sailing Yacht Ruby Rose Thanks, that was my gut feeling. Huge difference between day sailing and even a weeks holiday and a live aboard is a whole league beyond this. Better but the theory books whilst I try to perfect not capsizing or pitchpoling my dinghy. Know what you mean about risk.. I never got the 'you're never more alive than the point you are closest to death' attitude of some of the guys I climbed with as a student. Nope, you are closer to not being alive anymore..
@StreetTruckinTitan7 жыл бұрын
Hi Guys. A topic Id like to hear you discuss is a typical daily diet and any physical body changes you both have experienced since starting your sailing journey. Maybe you can touch on this in a upcoming vid. Cheers!

Good video. For future reference, when riding in the back of a truck, the drink of choice is cheap beer. It never occurred to me how funny it would be to BBQ hot dogs (bangers, frankfurters, sausages, etcetera) on a sailboat until seeing you use that barbie. Upshot, you probably won't have to flip them... catching those buggers might be a sport though.

Also, your mate is totally right about the coo-koo clock aspect of the lighthouse, except it doesn't slow down at the end...mass doesn't understand distance. The lighthouse also is ARLHS BAH-010 for the lighthouse on the air folks. I'd have had to take my 857D up on that tower and tried 10m or 20m as a minimum.

When flying a symmetrical spin, the rule of thumb was to keep the pole square to the wind. I've had no experience with an asym spin. Does the same rule apply?

The Great Barrier reef is being affected just as badly. Huge tracks have been bleached in the last couple of years. Cyclone Debbie saved some bleaching this year because it was both big enough and hung around long enough to lower overall temps. It's entirely debateable whether coral reefs have a bleak future or no future. Some corals handle bleaching better than others but not year after year.
@tbonemc21187 жыл бұрын
Much is said and wars are fought over politics and religion today as though they really matter ignoring our collective one true God, our only God the almighty "$" . Our personal foot print on the world can be gauged by how many we have collected. I'm not optimistic for our reefs or planet that a way can be found to sate our devotion/greed through saving and preserving them. Perhaps unwittingly or maybe because you were pissed off you have started for some or continued for others a conversation when you film a dead reef. The conversation will happen elsewhere but our awareness needs all possible sources.A death in paradise.

I will not comment that tiny dew on the lens at 4:55. Or, that even the cars try to shield conservative Americans from English swearing at 6:47 , but you saw the Pac-Man sunset at 10:14 ;.) I'm SO envious, that I've given up hope of a catamaran. They are getting too expensive for me. Now the fall has come to Norway and I have swapped the hunt in the mountains with a hunt of a sailboat.
