Thanks for the pro tip on how to cut a threaded screw! You probably know that one popular method to prevent castling is the put a traffic cone filled with foam directly beneath the hawse hole. Another way is to use stainless chain, but that stuff is crazy expensive …

Thanks. I’m not sure I have room for a cone in my small anchor locker and I’m not buying stainless chain! Haha.

After pulling mine up by hand yesterday, I'm committed to installing one on my 30 TR. Thanks for the vid!

Right on. I hope my trials and tribulations help you with a smooth install. HMU on IG if you need or want to chat. 👊🏼

Great job on the windlass install. It works really well given the space constraints. It's hard to gauge distance between where you anchored and the moorings on film but that first power boat that waked you was ridiculously close!
@sailingsole2 ай бұрын
Yeah, anchoring at Island White on the weekends is asking for it. You can only anchor there Thursday to Sunday though.

Looks great! We took Celerity out a few days ago - have to avoid the weekends, its peak powerboat crowd right now. Not able to make keeldragger's this year, duty calls. We're planning another trip out to the Isthmus or Avalon in a few weeks to test out our genoa and some other small dockside improvements. Been pretty warm down there lately.

Right on Brian. I hope the trip goes well. Yeah, it is peak season right now, plan ahead and book a mooring if you’re not planning to anchor. Catalina is a madhouse right now.

Good job Andy, regardless of small issues your boat life will be a lot easier with that windless. I'm curious is there a speed limit in the anchorage or is it however fast you want to go. The power boat that waked you was rude.
@sailingsole2 ай бұрын
Hey Bob! As far as I know there is no posted speed limit. Usually 5knots or less (no wake) is common courtesy in an anchorage.

Nice work on the windlass Andy. Pretty busy spot you anchored in. Lots of speed and noise 😂😢

What is the cost to dry dock a boat like yours and are you allowed to do your own repairs?
@sailingsole2 ай бұрын
Dry dock is storage and I don’t know because I’ve never done it. If you’re asking about “lay days” at a shipyard then it is a cost per day set at the shipyard. When I did it, each day was around $180 but I only had to pay for one day. The other days my boat was at the shipyard was on their time because my boat was in a queue to get the bottom paint done. I used those days to work on it then had to pay for one lay day at the end. Only the owner and persons on the registration were allowed to be in the shipyard working on the boat. Cheers!

Thank you for the reply. I watched your first videos and wondered how you did the repairs to your Keel all the process worked.

If you’re talking about the annoying Catalina smile; I just did the standard grind it out a few layers, fare it, fill it with faring compound and finish it with something slightly flexible. Honestly I forget the exact compounds that I used but any SoCal shipyard has felt with Catalina smiles before so they’ll know what to do. Cheers!

How much do you pay for your slip in Long Beach?
@sailingsole2 ай бұрын
Call Shoreline Marina if you’re interested 1 (562) 570-4950. I don’t really like airing out my expenses in a comment, sorry. No offense. I’m in a 30’-35’ slip.
