Hey guys. I have an N40. I and pretty much most Nautitech owners I know of love their boats. Mine handles well - but I must admit speed isn’t a selling point - though I’ve done 20knots once. Beating upwind isnt much fun either. But as for comfort especially at anchor, with all that outside space - its unbeatable. If it was a toss up between speed versus comfort - I’ll take the latter every time. Most are at anchorage or docked a lot more time than they are sailing.

Hey Guys - Been a fan for a long time and was excited to see the NO40 video, but then it started with Kitesurfing which is another passion of mine. I’ve been kitesurfing for about a year on and off and have just recently gotten to the point where I am independent. Stick with it! It’s worth it! Sorry to see that you didn’t like the O40. I just sold mine and am waiting for my O44 that comes out of the factory in Sept. They really are great boats. With the wind behind you and just the main and the jib and a nasty swell its going to be uncomfortable and you won’t be going very fast. On a reach in 20 she should easily do 11 or 12 kts and with a kite up you could be doing 15. Also the cockpit ergonomics are great imo. Standing over the rudder in the back is the best place to steer from (have you tried a fly bridge?). Calling the NO40 a “Condomaran” is really not fair, but I appreciate that you guys weren’t feeling well.

I started watching SS for the views and vicarious thrills of watching these nice people get a boat and go cool places. Finally getting to the Bahamas was great... my favorite part. I even enjoyed watching the repairs and maintenance of the boat as I am a handy and creative carpenter and wannabee engineer. Then the hurricane devastated the Bahamas, so you never went back there. You ended up spending lots of time in Florida. Then the baby came along, and afterwards more time in Florida. No sailing to the Mediterranean, darn! Instead of adventures in sailing, SS has become "Living on the water in Florida". It's nice. I'd love to go somewhere tropical... after I see more of Europe. I'd love to drive to Key West. But... it is Florida, and Florida kinda sucks. So I'm glad you guys have this awesome life of being on a perpetual vacation... if only we could all figure out how to do that, and raise a kid, and buy land in the country... but I'm kinda done with watching yet another video of you guys tooling around the keys. And yeah, envy comes into play. My lovely GF and I have a nice life, but we're kinda stuck with not being able to adventure much lately, and the "adventures in the Keys" just doesn't do it for me anymore. Especially with a 20 minute video every, like, so often you lose the momentum. And why Paytreon-ize you for more of the same? I have subscribed, and if you ever get the hell out of Florida I may check you out again. So... just my two cents. Carry on. Cheerio!

It was hard to tell from the video, because we never looked back from the bow, but if this cat is like so many, it has a small jib sheet traveler that doesn't come anywhere close to getting to the rail, so, unless you are on the wind, the leach of the sail is always hooked and acts like a break, backwinding the main, so you can't let the main out as far as it would normally be to be efficient. My first sail in a monohull in company with a trimaran was no contest at all. I had a modified full keel, short waterlined, Alberg 30, comparatively slow to my next boat, a Morgan Nelson/Marek 36, and we went from St. Augustine offshore, in winds in the high teens, to Ponce Inlet and then up to Daytona in 9 hours. The trimaran got in about 4 hours later. That was in 1979, and I have sailed with multihulls that were designed for cruising and multihulls, like the F-27, that were built for speed. On no occasion did either ever go as fast, nor as close to the wind as the boats that I was on. The F-27 was fantastically fast off the wind, but had no really cruising potential. Load them up with provisions, water and fuel, and the fast ones turn into the slow ones. By the way, in one race, we got hit by a severe thunderstorm and the F-27 flipped and was found 5 days later with the dehydrated crew sitting on the upside down hull off of St. Augustine in the Gulf Stream. If flipped off Canaveral, 100 miles south. I was in a Hunter 28.5 at that time, and we cruised right through the storms with a partially furled genoa and a dowsed main, doing 7-8 kts for about 2 hours before the glass off after the storm system passed. And, like the commenter a few comments down, when they go over, they stay over, and it takes no time for them to flip. Certainly not enough time to drop the sails. I really enjoy your videos and your constant learning about yourselves and your willingness to share it. Keep it up.

@brianc49172 жыл бұрын
@@SailingSoulianis Maybe but it is money well spent. Since it's a sport that you can do from any location. Small beach, off the back of the boat etc. no lines to tangle or get tangling in. No kitemares! So many kiters are now switching to winging because of it! Much safer for us dad's! It's a lot of fun as it combines all the water sports into one.

Cruising cats are not for speed, they're for space and comfort in flat conditions, L&K. Needs a tri for performance, mono for solidity. You'll stick with Soulianis?
@sailinghopes39432 жыл бұрын
Sorry you had a bad first sail on a cat. Conditions you described sounds like it would be horrible mono or cat. Been on but haven’t sailed the N40 Open but it seemed like a tight space. You need a little more practice. Our N542 sails like a witch. :-)

No way I would want a cat. Starting with 37', there just isn't that much too little space in a monohaul. By 39-42' , all problems solved. The key is keeping the draft suitable for where you'll be sailing.

Capsize and turn over, or pitchpole etc etc, IT STAYS TURNED OVER, game over, with a conventional hull in bad weather when she is battened down, she will right herself like a weighted fish float. We all know this so if you want to sacrifice you and yours for a bit of speed , be aware, there is no coming back.

What difference does the filmed day make on the experience of enjoying the video? They are busy with things and produce a video for us every 2-4 weeks.
