Good to have you back......all four of you. Most sailing channels I follow, when they stop sailing, I unsubscribe. However, I had the feeling it was worthwhile following you a bit further. I do not regret that. Btw.....Happy 2025!!

As a consumer of many different channels who have pivoted their content, I've noticed that what I really love in a channel is the personalities and the story. Sure, a particular activity might pull me in, but it's the people and the storyline that keep me there. And you guys definitely still have me. Best of luck on all your adventures!

It is hard to build a home and shop by yourself for the first time. I build a log home first then later built a garage/shop. I did have the since to hire out some projects along the way that would have been too much for one person to complete. In the end all was well more or less. It is hard to build a garage/shop too large. It has been 25 years and we and our needs have changes. Oh, if only it had been a little longer, and moved back about 15 feet. Life is dynamic and try our best to decide now for the future.

It might be awesome to have videos of projects about planning and building out the farmstead. You could maybe even sell some of the produce to generate income at markets or roadside stands. Happy New Year!

Wow, you got really lucky finding this land in so many ways. I'd like to see you build a barndominium. Figure where you can have the greatest abilities mechanically and financially. You can't do it all yourselves. What about a pond?

Lauren, you don't have to understand all of the survey stuff that Kirk was talking about. You have Kirk. I don't need to understand any of that either as our 4th (and youngest) son is a Civil Engineer whose first co-op in college was on a survey crew! It will be awhile for you two, but grown up kids rock!! Looking forward to watching your barn go up. Well, for me, it is back to building a LEGO Garbage Truck with my 4 yr old grandson.

I have been watching your videos for several years. It's great to see how well you work together - especially on projects that require you to learn new skills. It reminds me of the time almost 30 years ago when my wife and I installed 1,000 sq ft of engineered wood floors (glued down) and 500 sq ft of tile in our home. I had some handyman experience but had never attempted a project like this. My wife, like Lauren, is a trooper.

🤔 I'm wondering if you could build a super energy efficient, weatherpoof dugout home into the hillside. For cheaper than a conventional bricks 🧱 & sticks home... 🤔 Something like a dugout earthship style home. Using many discarded free materials & free rocks found on the property or nearby. Also if you have a lot of trees on the property a portable chainsaw mill is only like $250 I haven't checked but a sawmill that makes cleaner cuts might not be that much more. A guy in Colorado built a really cool castle 🏰....For a fraction of the normal cost by using free local large rocks. 🤔 Earth ship tires are labor intensive & sandy soil won't work. But large rocks & natural logs for strong support. Then some type cheap weather membrane. Reflective skylight tubes can bring in tons of light. The front facing south with front windows angled at something 35° to bring all the winter sun light & keeping direct hot summer sun out. A dugout means little to no heating or cooling needed. An earthship style water collection, recycle ♻️, dispersion, system. If a well is going to be crazy expensive. The home interior can be modern & made anyway you want with indoor waterfall & pond, swimming pond, solar heated hottub if ya wanted. It might be cheaper to build, with 0 exterior maintenance & possibly hold a higher resale value. Due lower insurance rated from being storm proof, less maintenance & much lower heating/cooling costs. In hindsight & if I can get unsick, I'd build me a cool tree house cabin on posts. Using recycled materials and/or a dugout later. Maybe rent the 1 out of both while gone in sailboat ⛵ or RV.

Nice to see you being back, love the video. But man... you have to learn the Metric system... everything regarding building stuff becomes SO much easier. I just don't get it how you can stand the Imperial system with all the conversion between feet and inc and what not :D In Metric you just move the comma one way or the other and you get more or less precis measurements, 1 Meter is 10 Decimeter or 100 Centimeter and so on. But well done on your calculations! And I really like the short name!!!
@SailingSoulianis24 күн бұрын
I’d be all for metric. Feet and inches are burned into my memory at this point. But it’s even more befuddling to me when using imperial for volume/weight like when cooking; quarts, gallons, ounces, cups,, tablespoons, teaspoons🤦
