Hey kids, haven't commented in awhile and now seems a good time for a hodge-podge of comments. Such a classic - when the boss brings the hammer down: "I'm not using that bucket again!" And, frankly, I think even most guys agree. When you talked of the speed that Yaba's making under sail, I thought of the lads from the boatyard and the many generations of knowledge they carry that went into resurrecting Yaba and which knowledge we often see in the boats in your episodes. The soles - as a carpenter in the Northern hemisphere I'm so jealous of you in the southern who have such a greater variety of readily available and relatively cheap hardwoods. Yes, we have great oaks, maples and others, but .... Ben at least 2 years ago I mentioned how your, and MP's, investment in working on Yaba will reward you at sea. And in each episode I see both of you reaping the benefits - a pleasure seeing this. I do have a carpenter's tip for you - cutting material: choose the side of the line to cut on. Virtually without exception you cut on the off-cut side of the line. So when removing an interior part of a piece of material (like openings for a sink in a countertop), cut on the inside of the line, so you're cutting the off-cut and not what's supposed to remain. While often this isn't critical, it's a good habit that translates into cabinet making level of work. The square shaped Phillips heads aren't Phillips - there're Robertsons!! Which were invented by a Canadian, so hold your tongue Ben!! Cheers from Vancouver, BC, Canada

Those colors! I had to smile. Years ago when I was starting out, I lived in a cool warehouse with an artist friend. It was a fresh build-out so we had to wait and had time to think about how to paint the walk-through bathroom and shower. John used that teal you used, and in 3 horizontal, wide stripes, he graded from that teal to pale aqua... and when you were in there, it felt like being in a swimming pool! I loved it so much. Keep going with those colors! When you held up the color card, I said out loud: Use ALL of them! Just roll them around the boat and everything will feel related. Cheers from Maine!

Excellent idea to practice with the tiller. FYI the rope you use as your autopilot has a name in English. Every thing on a boat has a name, it’s a game sailors have been playing for millennia) . That line is called a becket. Not to be confused with the sheet bend knot also known as a becket bend. On a boat apiece of rope with a job is called a line ,in English.

@@SailingYaba hi MP, nice to have discovered your channel! Great job you did on that boat. Looks so nice! A propos toilet, you should really have a look into DRY toilets, called composting toilet, which many van lifers use. They are an investment because they are not cheap. They don't need water, no chemicals and it becomes soil. They DON'T smell! All the people I know in the van community swear that that system was their best choice ever. Just do some research about those. Wish you always fair winds. Greetings from Germany.

You need to find a way to use that huge cabin top as a work space. Dropping a workpiece or tools overboard is going to get expensive quickly. How about some saw horses that fold flat? Or something that can bolt together when you are using it but store flat when you. Put a tarp from a halyard and you can even give yourself a sun shade while you work or lounge on the cabin top.

Care to explain how ‘your sails will work best for stability’ - what component of stability will they improve?
@ablemarine9072Ай бұрын
@@normanboyes4983 the simple answer is that they will stabilize the vessel and keep it from rocking back and forth!
@normanboyes4983Ай бұрын

Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and especially health to all involved humans and animals.

Dear @@SailingYaba couple You're welcome, it's my pleasure. Thanks for replying and especially for giving a heart to my comment. I always and totally appreciate both very much. 2) It's definitely the right thing to do! Using a totally different language is not only outdated but also absolutely unnecessary. Such special languages were made up to exclude extern people and/or to make those "specialists" more needed (and expensive additionally of course!). Especially for instance lawyers language. But also hunters language and even Doctors language (except the Latin terms). Nobody needs knots! Metric kilometres are the most logic way to measure distances and speed. But I would accept land miles too (but only grudgingly of course). Sea miles are simply not necessary and make everything more difficult. Additionally: With "left" and "right" the world has commonly known/used words for showing a direction respectively side. Thanks again for not using unnecessary terms. Sincerely yours.
@markthomas7442Ай бұрын
Granted, A head is not a toilet it is where the toilet and shower reside. I feel sorry there are so many as your self who feel tradition and marine lingo mean nothing. Those are what set sailors aside from those on the hard. You being a "cruiser", or wanna be, will never be a sailor.
@Chr.U.Cas1622Ай бұрын
@@markthomas7442 Good grief! 😁😁😁 Another one of those outdated language lovers. Still using terms from ancient times has nothing to do with being good sailors. It's simply totally unnecessary and, as I mentioned before, absolutely outdated. Hanging on to something like this is quite ridiculous. Better be glad that the old times are over (including a lot of the so called traditional marine stuff!)! You would not want to be a sailor respectively a crew member of a big sailing vessel 200 years or more ago (when they really used what you call a head)! You would definitely look quite pathetic in the old times. Best regards, luck, health and wisdom in particular.

The secret addition?? - what will it be? I commented under their question, but am adding it here because I'm late commenting. It follows: 17:45 is where Ben starts talking about a few things, then teases the surprise when MP jumps in says it's a surprise. Note: its an item that will, "make our life easier", the 4th sail is what's supposed to make Yaba faster. Given it's something that will make life easier, it's not a baby. And I'm not sure. My best guess is: a new tender, that's right for Yaba's purpose (scuba chartering), and whatever system that allows it to be easily stowed onboard and launched. Beyond this reason, a good powerful tender will super helpful in many ways, including making Yaba safer.
