Have you ever thought about what you’d do if you saw a big tsunami wave coming your way?
@SailingZatara2 жыл бұрын
It’s funny you mention that, because especially on long passages like this we’ll sometimes sit out on deck and talk about “what we would do if” we saw a tsunami, or if we saw an alien ship, or got approached by a pirate ship, or saw some supernatural thing in the sky, etc… It’s fun and helps pass the time and we sort of connect as a family sharing what we’d think about wild crazy things happening! We actually did that on this passage but I’m afraid to spoil it by pulling the cameras out; times like that are very special and intimate for us as a family. ~Renee💕

I am endlessly fascinated that after all this time and especially given how old Jack is that Keith has not completely handed the boat over to his son for weeks at a time to make sure he could command the vessel in the event of an emergency. Keith is an extraordinarily skilled human being: I doubt there's anything he couldn't fix. He knows how to fly, he knows how to command a boat and it just seems to me like in addition to school it would be fantastic if all three children were really learning how to commandeer a boat on an open passage and skillfully maneuver it into any kind of a difficult port. These kids have been on that boat way too long to not know how to do that. They obviously know how to handle the saild, rigging and various aspects of the boat, but again I'm just surprised that we never see Keith completely hand the boat over to Jack for a couple of weeks.

As always, love watching your videos. Keith, I'm never going to be able to join you guys 'out there on the water', unless I hit a super lottery jackpot or something, and even then, probably won't. However, I still enjoy watching your videos and learning about sailing. So, since you guys are already in Tanzania and I don't expect any 'new' sailing videos for a while, would it be possible the next time you're doing passage to do a run down on all the sails you are using, how they're a controlled, what kind of wind angles you need for each and how they all work. As a pilot, (not current in 40 years) I realize that these sails are actually more like wingfoils, but others won't understand that, so a primer on how a sail actually works would be cool, too. I still want to know what instrument Kate is going to start playing. The family that plays music together stays together. :D
