You must live near the mountains of North Carolina. I not to certain that I recall it snowing where I was that year. Fantastic review, deciding on either the 149 or this pen. The answer clear to me now. I appreciate you sharing.

David, it's wonderful to see how much shading and line variety you can get from this pen, even though a medium. The Ku Jaku shines in your hand. (Yes please, on the idea of ink reviews, if time and energy allows.) And once again, I love the inclusion of your closeups! Yummy view of that ink charged nib. While Sailor pens may be conservative, they certainly make it up in their nibs and build quality. Thanks again for another fine review!

You seem to write 'harder' than I do, and it was amazing to see you demonstrate the available width, then the railroading. I wouldn't have the courage to do that. Maybe not the strength, either! *Loved* the snow ... thank you so much for sharing the review, and the view!

Love your reviews. I've noticed that when you review an expensive pen, you tend to compare sizes with other expensive pens. Would you mind throwing a TWSBI Eco , Lamy Safari or something we probably all have in your expensive pen reviews? That would really help me get the size in my head.

Thanks again David! Another great review and another pen on my must-have list. Ink reviews would be cool, but I like what you already do with the swatches. Those really quick comparisons are helpful and informative, without distracting from the actual review. Nicely done...as always.

Awesome pen, David, and a totally fantastic nib; double thanks for the snow vid. Reminded me of my Ohio days when my big brother would always push me aside to get the wooden flexible flyer and left his little brother with the metal "suicide rocket" sled. Great video, as usual.

What a gorgeous pen. I love Sailor pens. There’s a very special style, elegance and character to Sailor pens that always has my undying devotion. And the nibs? Where do I even begin to say how exceptionally good they are? The Sailor Pro Gear pens are outstanding in looks and performance. This KOP is probably slightly better, overall, which is saying a lot, actually. I’d love to have this pen in the silver/rhodium trim, and preferably a ‘B’ nib. The stated price of this KOP, though, suggests I have to learn to curb my ardor and avarice for splendid pens like these...for the sake of personal fiscal responsibility. 😀

Beautiful pen, Sir. I just received a Pro Gear medium with gold-trim and really like it. Given your review, I'll get a PG2 to compare soon. The KOP PG is likely large for my hand as is my KOP Ebonite. Dan Smith tuned it at the OH Pen Show and I like the nib better, but due to size (and visual blandness?) it's not a pen I pick up often, so the KOP PG may not be for me. Thanks for another great review, David.

David, thanks for this review - I do enjoy your videos, particularly when you get into some of the back-story of the various manufacturers. As for this pen, and Sailor in general...dat nib! :) But dat converter! :( As you can see, I'm really torn about this - it surprises me that Sailor continues to manufacture grand pens with minimal ink capacity. I will own a Sailor or two one day, but I'm not sure it'll be at that price for a C/C. Keep up the great work!

If you could only buy one (for now), which would you go for? This pen or the Pilot 845? I've been debating between these two for quite some time and now have an opportunity to spring for one (but not both) on the Japanese market.
@FigbootonPens4 жыл бұрын
That's a tough decision. Both are special pens. If it was between the 845 and this specific KOP Pro Gear, I would take the 845. But between the 845 and the KOP Pro Gear Sky...then I take the Sky.

Thank you for the great review, David. I receltly bought a black KOP Pro Gear and as you mention the nib is fantastic. What I'm concerned, though is the stuctual integrity of the pen. The thread of the nib section starts about 3mm from the O-ring, while the thread of the barrel starts about 6 or 7mm from the edge (it's placed deeper in the barrel than it should be), i.e. they are misaligned and both parts are held together by 2 and half turns only, while the lenght of the thread suggests that there should be at least 6, 7 turns. This is not the case with my Pro Gear Standard, so I think that Sailor screwed up big time with KOP. I will appreciate if you can check if that is the case with your pen too, as I see in the video that you undo the barrel quite fast. Your feedback will be really appreciated. Thank you so much. Best Regards Stefan
@FigbootonPens2 жыл бұрын
I have had a KOP PG for a number of years and never felt there was any issue with how the threads were designed.
@Steve-eo1fb2 жыл бұрын
@@FigbootonPens Thank you, David. I watched several KOP Pro Gear reviews and tha barrel alway unscrews in just 2 complete revolutions - same as mine. Taking to an account that the thread is as long as on the Pro Gear standard it should open/close in about 7 complete revs. There's definitely a design flaw and this shoudn't happen on a pen that expensive coming from a brand with traditions. I decided to keep it anyway hoping that it will last and the main reason for my decision was the nib. I have 149 with a very well tuned nib, but this one is on another level. It's worth to mention the feeder design too. The best plastic feeder I've ever seen. I assume it has 3 slits like on 1911L. It definitely does a great job.
@murkser41492 жыл бұрын
@@Steve-eo1fb you are getting worked up over nothing. The King of Pen has a slip&seal mechanism which is why the threads are designed that way. It's a quality feature, not a defect.
@wagsbass8 жыл бұрын
I can understand as a FP enthusiast, why you would spend that kind of money on this pen. Personally I can never justify spending $750 on a plastic pen. The only way I would spend that kinda money is if the pen was made of some precious material and not "precious resin"

Very nice pen and review. Makes me want to get one now. What I find fascinating from all the many pen reviews I've watched is that I am still a F, MF kind of nib lover. I have tried M, MS and B but I simply don't like those gauges.

I just recieved my KoP 1911 with the new style nib yesterday. I'm very surprised how the medium nib writes like a western medium. It's as smooth as glass, but it's a bit too wide of a nib for me. I may get the nib reground. Anyone have experience with doing this to their KoP?

Hi David or the other Folks here. I need some opinions. At this moment i am saving some money for a good pen and i have this KOP Pro Gear in my mind, but the pelikan M1000 makes me beautiful eyes. But, i am not sure if the KOP is better or the M1000, especially for the nib.
@FigbootonPens5 жыл бұрын
They are both great pens, so "better" can be in the eye of the specific user. The nib on the M1000 is rather unique. I would suggest trying to test out each of them prior to committing.

I wish Sailor still offered the King of Pen in the Realo version, i.e. the King of Pen with a sailor's piston filler. But, I understand it was only made for the Japanese market, and I understand due to its rarity, it goes for a lot of money in the secondary market. Well, I can still dream, cant I? Anyways, enjoy your KOP!!!!:):)

Odd. You write your "g" the way I write "q." I agree that Sailor's KOP varieties are wonderful pens. My great problem with them is the price! Otherwise, for me they are the right size, they have marvelous nibs, their fit and finish is excellent, and they are comfortably ergonomic for me. I am in love with Japanese "B" nibs, which for me are much more than just "wet M nibs."

Do you realize that when you hold up 2 pens to show us the difference in size that you completely cover up the bottoms of the pens with your fingers. (245-250) That makes it a little hard to see how long the pens are. Just saying because you do it a lot on your videos.

Or how many pen fans out ot of a hundred revisit their bloody pen boxes over a period of ten years? Or why use valuable resources, time and effort to come out with a bloody useless and expensive box that nobody will ever use anyway in their lifetime? Comin' across, mate? I call it bloody madness and I dare say that love of waste is not my cup of tea (or glass of Scotch whiskey). Period. But the pen is really great, don't get me wrong, figgy
