Not unnaturally, Michael, both pens have their pros & cons - I still take the side of the Progear with silvered trims, but I fully appreciate your new fondness for the gold version. Of course, the Realo is a piston filler - which is my preference (in terms of filling mechanisms) - but unless I am incorrect, the Realo P-G does not come in silver trims; however, there is what I would term a Standard ProGear II in silvered accents, but it's a cartridge-converter; from what I've researched, there are two versions of the model you featured - one being the ProGear, the other, Progear II (presumably a later edition): both are piston fillers; ironically, the 'ProGear' is approximately $70.00 (US) more expensive - so pricier than it's latter counterpart - go figure !! What bemuses me, is that they are identical, save for the fiscal outlay to the customer. To date, your overview is eighteen months old...but I cannot reconcile with Sailor's pricing structure (or that of the vendor's). They are both handsome pieces, but unless Sailor produce a silver accented model P-G Realo, it's unlikely that I'll be looking to purchase it. I am happy enough with my '1911' just now....do take care, my friend, Andrew :)

Hello, I have the Sailor Pro Gear Sigma Realo and it is a great pen. It is a little bigger than the regular model and I find the larger size more comfortable. I'm thinking of purchasing the 1911 Large Realo as well. Thank you for a great review! Cheers, Steve

Thanks for the valuable input. When I looked (in the past) just at the price, I thought "standard" since they'd write the same --and if Sailor used a standard international converter/ cartridge I might've gone that way but since they use a proprietary system I lean towards the Realo -- and then my eye gets caught on OTHER (brand) piston fillers. I know, a tragic dilemma.

I enjoy the comparative reviews, in a way it "kills 2 birds with one stone." Gives a viewer a little bit more "food for thought" in one's decision making.

Just the video I needed! Thank you. I really wish they made the Pro Gear Realo in a black/silver trim. :(

Thanks! Glad it helped! Yeah weird. I just checked at La Couronne du Comte - they have the 1911 Realo available in Silver Trim, but the ProGear does not seem to be listed with Silver trim as Realo....

Nice review! I understand the Sailor convector holds a small amount on ink. How much ink does the Realo hold?

FrenchAccent thanks! I haven’t measured it in milliliters, but a whole lot more! It’s a piston filler.

Gosh, only a year since I watched this. The simple answer as to which one to get is to get both. I'm simple and got both, over a period of time of course. Except my Pro Gear was the Imperial Black. They are both lovely pens to use. I cannot quite put my finger on it, but the Realo feels like a better pen than the Imperial Black. Certainly the cap/barrel threads are more precise and it came with a better tuned nib. That was quickly sorted out! They are both a joy to write with. I like the understatedness of the Imperial Black. I feel I can take it out in public without it making a loud statement. The Realo too is quiet in that regard, though it seems to say 'serious pen' a little more. I think a downside for the Pro Gear is the small ink capacity, but there is enough for more than a days use. The converter holds 0.68ml. Sometimes I pop back to your reviews to see what the Master said. 😁 I hope all is going well for you. Thanks for your thorough and thoughtful offerings.

All is well, thank you very much. I have, not very long ago, returned from a summer vacation with the family to Southern Germany and Northern Italy, which was very very nice. Now it is back to everyday life - plus pen reviews ;). I also liked the Sailors very much. At some point, I felt that I have to focus my personal pen collection - and the decision then went to keep German makes only. That is no discrimination against other pens, but a very practical way for me to keep it at bay. So I dont own my Sailors anymore. I am very glad that you enjoy yours! I hope you are doing well, and are coping okay with the temperatures in the kingdom.

@@Scrivelynotes Ah, Southern Germany, Northern Italy... Tyrol? The wines alone make it worth a visit! Thank you. I thrive well, thanks, but I think the heat here is a little more difficult since we lost the cool airs of the EU. Your reviews of German pens were what originally caught my eye and thus I have some very nice German pens. They do deserve a lot more exposure. Though I am not so keen on Kaweco. I am constantly surprised at the creative flair of German pen design. I shall look forward to seeing the videos. Be well.
