Hello everyone! 🚢 Welcome to an exciting new video where I take you behind the scenes of installing Starlink Internet on our ship. This new system brings fast, reliable internet to our ship, even when in the middle of the ocean. I’ll show you why this is such a big deal for ships and the people who work on them.
What You’ll Learn in This Video:
1. How Ships Used to Communicate earlier
Before we had the internet, how did ships talk to the each other and outside world? I’ll take you on a trip back in time, where ships used flags, Morse code, and radios to send messages. It wasn’t easy! I’ll show you how much things have improved with today’s technology.
2. How Satellites helped in ship’s communication
With the launch of Geo Stationary satellites, communication with ships improved to a much higher level. But that comes with several drawbacks which I’ll explain them and how it affected the ship crew’s welfare.
3. Life at Sea with No Internet
Imagine being on a ship for weeks or months with little or no internet. That’s how it used to be for most of us. I’ll explain how hard it was for the crew, and how slow internet made even basic tasks difficult. Some serious accidents, like the MV Wakashio disaster at Mauritius, happened partly because of poor communication onboard.
4. What Makes Starlink Different?
Starlink uses a network of satellites to give us fast, stable internet anywhere on Earth-even in the middle of the ocean. I’ll explain how this technology works and why it’s so much better than the old systems ships used to rely on.
5. How We Installed Starlink on Our Ship
Want to know how we got Starlink working on our ship? I’ll take you behind the scenes of the installation process, from setting up the equipment to getting the system online. You’ll see how we prepared everything, step by step, and how excited we were when the internet finally started working!
6. What High-Speed Internet Means for Us
Once Starlink was up and running, life onboard changed in a big way! We can now stay connected with our families and keep up with the news-all at high speed. This is more than just a convenience; it’s about improving life for the crew, and making us feel less isolated.
7. What’s Next for Shipping Technology?
With fast internet like Starlink, ships can now use advanced technology like AI, ML and IOT! We’ll talk about how this is just the first step in a bigger digital revolution that’s coming to the shipping industry, making ships safer and more efficient.

Good video .. star-link satellites are low orbit and the coverage area are less .. to mitigate the issue they have to deploy thousands of satellite.. their primary focus to cover land area .. good to know that its cover entire sea .. hope some areas you won’t get internet.. is my understanding correct? Or its cover your entire journey??

Thank you for your comment! 😊 You’re right, Starlink needs thousands of satellites to cover the entire world and it is an ongoing project. While their primary focus has been land areas, they are expanding to cover the seas as well. So far, we’ve had great coverage for most of our journey, but there are still some areas where there are no signal and some countries like India, the service is totally banned, in which we will shift back to traditional GEO sat communication. But Starlink’s aim to connect the entire world is a big step forward, though!

Many companies install Starlink only for the benefit of shore based office for official communications. For crew, the internet restrctions are still there. Office allows only 1 or 1.5 GB per week through Starlink. It is never unlimited data as in land. The advantage is only for office communications with frequent video conferencing with shore based office staff.
