OK, we get it. Former Naval Officer. But stick to the facts. Everything here is way beyond the scope of the facts. This kind of sensationalism is inappropriate by any standards. The ocean is vast, and I would challenge anyone anywhere who has been on a cruise or any boat to have EVER seen a US Navy vessel at sea. Yes, we do not encourage feeding fish, but if you knew a shed of anything about us, you would know that we are way too busy defending your right to be stupid, than we have time to feed the fish.

It´s not about soldiers standing and feeding fish. It´s about disposing food waste into the sea.

@alfredpease430, you're comment is duly noted and appreciated. I, for one, am also a Legionairre and thank you for your input to this channel providing valuable feedback. I am slightly disappointed however in your choice to disparage this KZbinr by calling him "stupid." It was quite obtuse. Please don't take offense to my comment as I am not attacking you. Just my opinion that name-calling although free speech does not harbor an environment where disseminating positive feedback should be the main focus. 6:28

From the 70's thru the 90's, I sailed on 5 carriers off the east and west coast, and I never saw a massive group of birds or fish when we threw the galley food in the water. Guess things has seriously changed since the early 90's

Gee in my day, throwing baged garbage from the Mess decks was almost a daily thing, announced over 1-MC.

Off the carrier's port quarter. Trash from other parts of the ship as well.

Thats right shippy. We dumped trash daily, so what do the ships do with trash considering they can underway for months before their next port call.

Navy Brat who spent some time at Saipan here. I remember friends of my parents coming over and the pilots, and about everyone else, talking about the Gooney birds (albatross) who were always hanging out on the runways as the "stupidest animals in creation" and a major danger to planes.

I am impressed by the level of 'green-washing' exhibited in this video ... Whilst you make some very valid points, you managed to gloss over the primary risk, namely that of 'bird strikes' during aircraft launch and recovery operations ... ?

Never saw any birds or fish ( sharks ). Flight deck was so loud it was barely tolerable for humans let alone birds.

CA and HI customs require that fruit and vegetables to be dumped overboard before entering port. This also helps their economies by forcing the Navy to buy their fruit and vegetables upon entering and just before leaving port.

Micro management, I've been working for a city for over 33 years. I work outside in parks, in 100° temps. Don't do this, Don't do that. Comes from admids that sit in AC behind a desk all day ! That doesn't know how to operate a screwdriver !

I spent 4 years at sea in the US Navy including 2 years on the USS Forrestal CVA-59 and I find this video ridiculous. Sea Gulls follow ships from port to sea in hopes to feed from sea food kicked up from the propellers , and they leave the area of the ship as it gets further out top sea.

Who TF has been out on deployment, working 12-hr shifts, feeding dang fish? This might be the worst, dumbest Navy video I've seen.

Killing fish from our food does that tell you what your eating has a good chance of causing you problems too! I saw in the comments people saying they used to do it, well our food has become process junk in most cases anymore. That why fish are dying back in the 50's and 60's food wasn't that bad.

Ecology, jeah! What about hundreds of tons od fuel, needed to run the ship? The ship must have storage capacieties, becoming havier etc. etc. I would like to say: not a one way road, this ecological concerns.

You start out by talking about how a US submarine pops up in the middle of the Chinese fleet. Then you come back and tell the real story of how that actually happened in reverse… to the US fleet… What the hell …What the hell?

In this video I think that throwing food into the ocean is a bad idea, because I am from Honolulu Hawaii, and that's a big NO-NO,because you don't know what is out there like shark's, but you have to understand the ocean can be very dangerous, as you can't predict anything, but it's just plain crazy, stupid and dumb, and in another video they were talking about a new restaurant that just opened close to Kileaua,a active Volcano, just plain stupid and crazy, as people don't understand the MANA,or the HAWAIIAN SPIRITS, as I am part HAWAIIAN, from my MA, and some people who have gone to Hawaii, have witnessed very strange things, which can't be explained, like seeing MADAM PELE,the Volcano Goddess, that's why their are tourist Guides, the dos and the don't do anything dumb, as some people have to return back and hire a HAWAIIAN priest, back to the same spot, and have it Blessed, only way, respect the SPIRITS as I can tell you stories, but I won't
