How to Replace the Fabric on a Director's Chair

Hi! Do I NEED a hot knife to cut this fabric, does it just help to keep it from fraying? Can I just cut with regular sicssors? Also what type of thread? Thank you!

I would use a #18 or #20 needle.

So you cut the corners at an angle to avoid seeing the bulky hem at the top, but is it really necessary at the bottom? I have a directors chair and it feels like you would have to bend over to see that. By the way I am I proud new owner of a Sailerite Fabricator. Absolutely awesome sewing machine. Thanks for the great videos.

You are correct, the bulk where the two hems cross over each other does not need to be cut away, but for those who do not have a heavy duty sewing machine, like your Sailrite Fabricator, they may find sewing through the bulk to be difficult. Congratulations on purchasing the Sailrite Fabricator Sewing Machine!

We used a straight stitch that is about 6mm in length using Polyester sewing thread.
