What a great tutorial! Moved fast and incredibly clear. Thank you. I've been confused by these procedures but not anymore. 👍🏻

Glad you enjoyed it! As a beginner, I was confused for a long time as well (especially with edge painting). I hope the video will give people the confidence to try these techniques for themselves for the first time.

Hi! I'm glad this video was helpful. In the beginning of this video I go over some of the differences between Veg tan and Chrome tan: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZ2mpJ-Of86Dhac This blog on our website might also be helpful for you: www.sailrite.com/chrome-tan-veg-tan-leather-comparison

@SailriteWorkbench thanxx a lot man! U realy help mi, the blog is excelent. I learn basic stuff. All day i try to burnishing edge at alomost impossible, now i see way is that. I do mini test with the hot water, and i see i buy a chrome tan leather :) Can you tell me one more thing, is it "only" way and best way paintting to finish edge on chrome, leather and i can find information wich leather is best for chrome leather edge? Tnx again a lot.

I would say painting is the best way, but it is not the only way. Here are some other ideas 1. Folded/rolled edge. When possible, I like to fold over the edge of chrome tanned leather 1/2" and sew along the edge. This isn't possible for every situation, but it does look great (even better than paint in my opinion). I do it at 7:20 in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnuygGmqZryEr5Ysi=dP-rYTcD36OzmP7F&t=439 2. You could also do edge binding- This involves cutting strips of thin leather and gluing it over chrome tanned edges. This is time consuming, but looks good when done properly: www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/detail-sewn-beige-leather-binding-260nw-170318576.jpg

The best method I've used for dyeing the edges of leather is using refillable dye markers, they are easy to use and leave no mess. I cannot recommend them enough.

What weight was the tote bag? It looks intimidating and I don't think it will be a first project, but I definitely want to make one after I get a bit more experience. Thank you for the excellent videos!

The tote in this video was made with 4-5oz veg tan. If i remember correctly, you said you got the Mini Tote Kit, and the leather in that kit is definitely more pliable than this bag.

@SailriteWorkbench buddy i need a help :/ I have a problem in painting the edges? when I do the burnishing, I paint in 3-4 layers, however, when the leather starts to bend, the paint cracks :( what do you think, is the problem in the poor quality of the paint or something else?
@SailriteWorkbenchАй бұрын
Hi, this could be a couple different things. If the edge paint has ever been frozen that could cause it not to adhere properly. Secondly, are you burnishing before you paint on the layers? If so, and if you are using something like tokonole, the paint will not apply correctly to the edges. The last thing i can think of is the paint is not fully dried before the piece is being bent, causing it to crack.

@SailriteWorkbench when you mean is the paint frozen, do you mean completely or has it been sitting in a cold room? Yes, burnishing the edges before painting, because I want to get as straight an edge as possible, and I don't use any other means before painting. and there is a possibility that I bent the leather before the paint completely dried.. do you suggest I use a primer for this color? the seller told me that the color is of such high quality that it is on a par with giardini color... thank you for your time. :)
