One thing I absolutely cannot wait for is for more life to be added to the game. Either by Raw Lion himself, or through mods. I live for the day we see ports become bustling areas of business they would be in real life.

21:05 that was a gybe (jibe) alright. For authenticity you could yell out “Gybe ho!” and watch as your terrified crew hit the deck and prepare for the worst! For an intentional gybe you could pull in some sheet so the sail doesn’t swing too violently across the deck. Great videos 👍

There are two types of mast tensions, changing them affects the maximum sail angle. I don't know how these sails are measured, but look not only at the result in yards, but also at the sail area, sometimes it is better to have several small sails than one large one, this is especially important in crosswinds. I sail in a brig, and to compensate for the heel caused by the side wind, I use one load of wood - I carry it across the deck to windward. The game does not reflect so well the center of mass - heavy cargo in the hold does not act as ballast.

Do you know why Kicia Bay is named Kicia Bay? Well, there is a little memorial to one of Raw Lion's cats called Kicia, and yeah, it's a beautiful place for a little ghost kitten to wonder around in.

It is indeed called a Gybe, and IRL it can damage the boat, or in the extreme, a "Chinese gybe" is when the boat is sailing downwind (on a modern for and aft rig) and then the sail suddenly slaps to the WRONG side, which makes the boat steer wild, and tip onto its side, the sail then acting as a sea anchor and keeping the boat pinned sideways until it sinks. IRL to avoid a Gybe, when running, and the ship needs to "wear" (opposite of tacking) the crew will first pull the sheets all the way in, then turn the boat, and let the sheets out again. In game i hold shift while pulling in the sheet winch, and since there is no tension on the sheet, the winch reels in very fast and avoids the hard gybe, mostly. IRL many sailors will attach a line to the boom, pulling it forward when running, as sort of a safety against a chinese gybe, i wish we could use mooring lines to pull the sails in this way, and also to "back" the sails. for example, sailing "goosewing" like you show going downwind, it would be so nice to use the mooring lines to make the yards/booms hold fast in the directions you desire, one port, one starboard, It would be a nice touch. *edit* it's impossible to describe this without using lots of sea jargon, sorry.

I really appreciate the jargon, it helps me to learn more about it. Take a look at www.youtube.com/@2eightnine who is working on a game called "Following Seas" and he has build in exactly these kinds of capabilities.

Yeah you were right that was a jibe. In my experience tacking was always much more common. But we would jibe now and then as well. And those red sails had me reliving my time on Roseway. I was back standing on the deck haha

Great fun to watch. I love the music! You can definitely have staysails partially overlap each other (and other triangular sails) in profile. This is because even when close-hauled, the foot of one sail will be laterally separated from the clew of the next. They will not produce too much of a shadow unless running before the wind. And even in that case, you can haul them apart with one to port and the other to starboard :)

I take the time to gather content videos when there's a good amount of new Sailwind content (other than end-game spoilers) to explore.

@@SimGamerTV thoughts on going out to Chronos or waiting for more? or is that end game spoiler stuff?... I just saw a mention of it but haven't really found it yet. I've made enough money to just do some exploring at this point so I'm going to start just sailing west and seeing how long until I start coming back to the east again or hit something... 4 minutes per degree seems to be the same size as the "real earth" so I suppose it will take a bit... curious if he built the world like that really... but if I stock up a year's worth of water and then fish along the way, I can probably make it all the way around I would think.

@@Irigom I've been thinking about this actually. I think that I will be focusing ore on the basics and alternate ways of doing navigation and operating the ships, and leave the end-game exploration stuff for people to discover on their own.
