People forget how Carr actually played that year. Go watch the highlights, he was moving out of the pocket, lots of roll outs, play action and scrambled for 1st downs! At least once a game.

Jon Gruden has a 99 Charisma score on Madden & nearly ALL of his former players still love the guy. That’s why when the email thing went down, you had players defending their experience with him, not corroborating anything. Gruden also has that gift of being able to hold players accountable & cuss them out, but what’s key is, he also great at building them back up & make them feel like they can achieve anything.

Watched Haener carve up UCLA at UCLA when they were ranked 13th in the nation. He threw for over 400 yards and led Fresno 80 yards with only seconds left and threw the winning TD. Since then I've kept tabs on him.

The Saints, knowing the schedule facing them in the early part of the season, know the importance of those early games and they are getting the team mentally ready for what's ahead. With no game, no practice to talk about, all there is, is speculation which changes about as much as the weather. It may be fun but is all meaningless. I like both Jake and Rattler and are glad we have them in the situation which will let both learn and develop.

I've seen speculation that if Rattler is the #3 the Saints would keep 3 QB's, but if Rattler is the #2, then they could cut Haener and try to put him on the practice squad. I don't know if that's how it would play out or not, but it does make sense from the standpoint of Rattler having the greater potential upside. This is why who's getting those 2nd team reps is very important and something to keep an eye on through training camp. Every roster spot is important, and those last cuts can be difficult decisions. This is where there is so much understated value in a player like Taysom Hill, who can be your 3rd QB and yet still bring something to the table, whether that's on special teams, as a tight end, running back, whatever, as opposed to having your 3rd QB somebody who never gets into the game all season and he's just taking up a roster spot.

I like both of our backups more than our qb1. It's really hard to gauge what a backup qb can do until they get real time. Starters get years of assessment. Backups mess up a game and they are thrown away.
