Fun fact: If you call the phone number on the side of the taxi, they would actually send a taxi you can use to fast travel. Same thing in the sequel.

Agreed. It's also one of the few games that feature a Ford Explorer and a Meter Maid car as drivable vehicles.

Playing music outside vehicles is a feature still used in a lot of open world games now, crazy that the original Saints Row was the first to do it as far as I know.

@@johananj.j8003 still fun as hell and one of the most underrated game series of all-time, with the new reboot excluded. SR 1-4 we’re all consistent with their storylines for the most part. Whereas GTA has nearly no consistency within the franchise outside of the maps. SR took a lot of inspiration in many ways from GTA for sure, but it’s still its own game. I’m hoping GTA 6 will be better, because imo GTA V isn’t that good

2nd one is easily the best. 3 and 4 had more refined mechanics but they removed the gang wars theme. Also 3 basically had activities disguised as story missions which I thought it was really cheap and lazy while 4 gave you super powers making the whole "GTA-clone" aspect of the series completely obsolete. Two was the peak. It added way more customization, planes and helicopters and bikes, interesting characters, the story was more interesting, it was just better.

I am glad they removed gang wars theme...And what is the point of bikes when vehicle handling sucks?Characters are boring too so as story. I am a gta fan yes but there are some games I like more than gta. I really tried to like sr2 but I couldn't. I just couldn't. Doesn't matter which way I am looking to sr2, compared to gta or other open world games. It is just nah not that good. I thought I will enjoy it but I left with disappointment.

Fun fact if you turn your change the resolution from 1080p to 480p in the Xbox 360 dashboard menu, the frame-rate is way better and having vsync on to fix the screen tearing

Yeah, the screen tearing was obvious the second I saw the recorded footage. The capture card must of exposed that issue a bit more because it didn't look too bad when I was playing it; I should've pointed it out in the review...

You don't shoot with the A button I don't know what kind of weird control scheme you were using and as far as Hitman goes it even says you need to kill them with a specific weapon the first time you start the activity. Also when it comes to the weapons why didn't you use the unlockables from the other activities or refill ammo are your crib? I do love your reviews they're really enjoyable to listen to while doing other things but I just had a lot of issues with this one

Driver 2 came out in October of 2000, a full year before GTA 3 and it allowed you to get out of your vehicle and commit grand theft auto in a 3D open world environment. A remaster would be nice the original to me was near unplayable with how dumb some design decisions were. Definitely watch the cutscenes here on KZbin but the gameplay is pretty bad. The worst was the the reload button being the same button as the pick up button so I was constantly losing my weapons for the crappy ones and wouldn't notice till I would go to switch weapons and notice I lost my gun

The first thing i did was tag every tag in the game and do every hitman missions to get get Infinite restock of ammo in the crib with best weapons and infinite sprint. LOL and the game was a breeze afterwards.

As an AVID Saints Row player/content creator, I'd say you did a pretty good job covering SR1. You touched on the things that made it shine and also it's flaws. I HIGHLY recommend playing Saints Row 2 as they fixed a lot of the things you mentioned and added tons of new content that really set itself apart from being just "another GTA clone". Hope to see a SR2 review sometime in the future!

GTA clone is a stupid term that should be obsolete since Driver 2 did it first anyways. Also, Saints Row was in development as Bling Bling pre-San Andrea being in development it just was released first. Again another ignorant thing a lot over look when calling SR a copy. This is why R* have no reason to appease their fanbases because they have no competition because any that is good enough instantly is a 'clone.' Least you did your research. Honestly SR3 should have been them becoming an organized mob like syndicate as it'd have fit better than being famous and they'd still have been a gang/gang element but in a fresh and more mature manner. With them becoming rich off of that and it being threatened by another similar organization as happened.

Because they couldn't fit the game on the disk, and optimization was a problem too. So, they removed at least the third of what game used to be on early stages of development.

Saints Row The Third is when the series fully embraces its identity as "The Dumb Fun Version of GTA." Realistically, it's the only way they could've gotten out of GTA's increasingly serious shadow. You want Coke/Pepsi, not Coke/Diet Coke.

As much as I love _Saints Row 2_ , it really doesn't shine in comparison to most of Rockstar's works. _Vice City_ , _Bully_ , and both _Redemption_ games are absolute masterpieces and are far better than _SR2_ in terms of their writing, mechanics, and quality overall. However, I'll admit to say that it is a far better experience than _San Andreas_ . That game is just awful.

As for your last comments I had the reverse problem lol When I was a kid a friend of mine gave me saints row and it was the only game I had besides for Shrek the Third for years. Like 06-09 it’s all I had. It was such a large part of my childhood by the time my parents were okay with me playing gta, I put in San Andreas and was massively disappointed lol now I love them both for what they are but the nostalgia for saints row will always be extremely strong for me.

You can call numbers, including a taxi. It won't take you to story mission markers or activities, but would take you to a store, stronghold, or crib, for up to $100. Edit: You can do that same thing in Saints row 2 as well.

Once again, great video! Used to really like this game back in the day, but never considered it to be even close to the quality of GTA. It was just a fun open world game that showed some nice (at the time) next gen capability's. Saints Row 2 is by far my fav one. Even though I don't LOVE the game it is by fat the best of the series. Great balance of realistic and absurdity, with a fun story (best of the series), characters and just a fun vibe. You said in this vid that SR 3 was where things got interesting. Imo and many others woulds agree that's where the series went downhill. The 3th game is still great fun and loved to play it in coop with a friend. The balance of realistic and absurdity was not really there anymore and it was just primary absurd. But still, it was a fun game with some great memorably moments. The 4th game however is uhhmm.... trash. Was still fun to play in coop (don't think I would have finish the game if it didn't have that). But they went waaaaaaay over the top with that one. And Gat Out of Hell is one of the worst things I've EVER played. Tried to play that with the same friend I played the 3th and 4th game with, but we had to stop playing that shit. Anyways, can't wait for the next review! :)

As a big Saints Row fan I'm glad you're finally getting to this game. The first game is very tough, and alot of the points you made at the end are very accurate. The saving grace however is that the sequel addresses many of these issues. Maybe I'm biased because Saints Row 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I can't wait for the review on the second one. PS when you play the second game, wait on the start screen for the intro cutscene to play. It's a good 90 second cutscene to explain what happens after the first one and where the city of Stilwater is in the 5 years since (Cause SR2 takes play 5 years later) The cutscene is something I didn't know about for a long time, years after I played SR2. Anyways, thank you Colorshed for videos!

SR 2 has cruise control so you can set a speed steer aim and shoot (with the default controls) really easily. I have no idea about the first game since I've never owned an xbox and my only experience with it is using an emulator that crashes after a few seconds of gameplay.

You're entitled to your own opinion, personally 2006 Saints Row will always be my favorite game probably Saints Row 2 with the Corporate Warfare DLC. Everything after those two games are not cannon in my eyes, sure 2006 Saints Row for the Xbox 360 is glitchy sometimes however this was fixed in the backwards compatible version for the Xbox One. Don't get me started with people that haven't played a game ignorantly labeling it a GTA clone, last I check the player is not always a one-man army in 2006 Saints Row nor Saints Row 2 when it came to certain missions that require you to have some assistance. To where the GTA series the player is always a one-man army on mostly suicidal missions, I rather people label fucking Sleeping Dogs a GTA clone cause that damn game has identity crisis doesn't know if it wants to be a Asian GTA or Batman Arkham series game.

Saints Row 2 is my personal pick. Most everything from 1 was refined and improved in some way. Plus it was the one with the best humor, from 3 onward it seemed like it was just an exercise in making everything increasingly stupid, which is fine, but I enjoyed the GTA: San Andreas style level of whackiness that SR2 had. Saints Row 4 is the best Crackdown game ever made though. Better than Crackdown 3 easily.

Them not having the correct documentation for the hardware explains why this game is so badly optimized lol. I'm playing through this game on 360, and it runs at an average 15 FPS. I recommend people play it through Backwards Compatibility on a newer console, where the extra power solves the Frame Issues.

People forget for a small time game compared to GTA San Andreas which i know had loads of famous actors saints row did have some well known actors like Kieth David, Daniel Dae Kim and Mila Kunis, yes its no Samuel L Jackson but still they tried. also i didn't realize it was Mila Kunis Playing Tanya when i first played this game.

I loved SR1 and SR2. When SR3 came out I was so excited but when I got it, I couldn’t even finish the game because it was such a chore. SR1 is a great game and it is one of my favorites but I completely agree with you that it feels less inspired than say a GTA. It something that they improved upon in the sequel. But even still the entire series has had this issue.

I never played this one, and don't want to. But Saints Row 2 was great, atleast on PC (as long as you had a 3.2GHz PC that ran it without bugs, or nowadays with unofficial fixes)
