Here’s something interesting, When enter the dominatrix was still dlc for the third, there was a saints row game intended as the 4th that was in development. It was called saints row 4 prime or part four, it would feature a brand new city to explore, parkour, a cover system, and more. The plot would’ve had Ultor create an evil clone of Johnny gat since he was originally supposed to be killed off, Ultor also ends up cloning Genghis Khan, cleopatra, and Joseph stalin, they would control different districts of the new city just like the gangs before. Definitely sounded very interesting

The explanation for Zinyak not killing all the Saints is two-fold: he wants to torture the boss mentally with the simulation, and he's a collector of certain human beings to learn from, and especially someone like Kinzie is really useful intellectually.

26:08 fun fact, when the game was still in development and didn’t really have any assets of its own (it was literally saints row 3 with some very janky superpowers to get the concept down) the game was called saints row 3.5. if you watch volition’s saints row anniversary stream on saints row 3, they show the early version and it has saints row 3.5 in the title

This is one of the reasons why I hated SR4. I'm all for crazy action but this just feels like overkill to me. I actually didn't mind the car controls in Saints Row and I had a lot of fun with customizing cars like it was NFS Underground, but when the game had a bigger focus on leaping and sprinting like Sonic The Hedgehog, I quickly lost interest.

I get it that u havent played it through but SR3 was mediocre with full of idiot characters with zero personality, boring and rushed story and also less clothing options... SR2 was an amazing and unique game with amazing story, great characters, cool plotwists, awesome game map and SR2 had much more content in it than SR3 and 4 ever had. Cuz once u finish the campaign of SR3 and 4 there is nothing interesting for u to do. SR2 also had unique activities and also had a Secret Mission which u could only do if u know the saints row story well enough to find it. SR3 and 4 had nothing like this. SR2 is the best.

My thoughts on this game is complicated. At first, I thought it was interesting at most, to the point where I considered it "Superman 64 done right" and yes I actually compared it to that. But when I went further into depth, it ruffled my feathers a bit. It just doesn't feel like a Saints Row game to me and I just couldn't get into it as much as the previous games. I get trying to differentiate itself from GTA (hell, I preferred SR2 over GTA IV back in 2008, and even now), but for the most part it plays like a bootleg Crackdown/Prototype. I pretty much HATED everything about this game. But then, I eventually made my peace with it. I took another look at it, and I still wasn't fond of it. While there are a few chuckleworthy moments here and there, most of it just feels dumb for the sake of it and it gets really tiring overtime. It also gets boring pretty quickly (to me at least), since there's nothing to do after beating the missions and you can't even replay them after completion. The constant super-jumping and super-sprinting gimmick doesn't interest me that much, either. Personally, I prefer the first two games but I can see the appeal of The Third and IV, even if I'm not fond of them.

Wow, these comments are toxic. People write off SR2 (and to an extent, SR1) as a baseless GTA clone and people crapping all over SR IV for being too over the top, and all that stuff. Me personally, I enjoy them both for different reasons. I like SR 2 for the open world stuff, and SR4 for the chaotic action. I don't have to debate which is "better," since I can just pick up a different game whenever I'm in the mood for something else. What this? Someone who enjoys different games? Wow, a foreign concept. I miss the time when people respected others' opinions without being toxic about it. Oh wait, this is the Internet, and "respectful" is something many people never seem to comprehend.

These games always felt WAAAY too unpolished to me, like, everything feels unsatisfying. The shooting feels off, the driving feels off, the graphics look dull and the story is so over the top I don't even care. And let's not even talk about performance, if you manage to get a constant framerate you must be a god or something, for everybody else is a constant rollercoaster of 15-40 FPS, and going above that is impossible.

Gat out of Hell I liked better than SR4, but it's also so much shorter. The biggest positive about GooH is the map which I believe to have been completely redone, but by mostly using assets from SR4. The super powers are all the same, you can actually fly a little instead of just gliding, some activities are pretty similar (new ones were added which were nice), weapon customization is almost non-existent (makes up for it with new and cooler weapons I think), cars are actually pointless now, and on and on. I think it still worth a review though since it is the latest game in the series even though it plays very similar to SR4. It's like they tried to pull a "Enter the Dominatrix" type thing, but didn't quite get there.

I felt like the superpowers made the game too easy and there's not really anything to do after beating everything, since all the effort was put into the story missions that take place outside it, which ironically had more variety than the entire map itself. Sure, it can be fun as a big dumb action game but as an immersive open world game, it's lousy. In my opinion, anyway. Of course, people are gonna disagree with me on this and that's perfectly fine. I just didn't like it.

One thing I really loved about SR4 were the little references to older games. Not just the obvious stuff- SR2 Shaundi, the SR1 level- but smaller things. Like, for example: If you listen to the Reggae radio channel, you'll find it hosted by Mr Sunshine, the voodoo villain from the Sons of Samedi. Putting stuff like that in shows the devs cared about making this the capstone to the series, and wanted to remember what had come before.

Saints Row 4 is the best Crackdown game and probably the best Prototype game. Saints Row 4 is not a Saints Row game, and the game’s story is literally a shitpost that only connects to the other games through fan-servicey references to Saints Row 2. But put that aside it’s honestly a way better GAME than Saints Row 3. SR3 was in this really weird in-between period of Deadpool humor and sci-fi elements in something that ain’t sci fi. To me, Saints Row 4 took that all the way and made it great instead of riding a weird in-between line of corporate gangster and goofy sci-fi. Saints Row 3 is too over the top for me, but Saints Row 4 isn’t, because of its shitpost nature, if that makes any sense. Plus, at the end of Saints Row 4 they found a time machine so that’s probably an excuse for Saints Row 5 to go back to SR2 type of stuff. Yup. When I got a hold of Saints Row 2 for the first time, I remember absolutely loving it. It was fantastic, and had just the right mix of serious and silly. Then 3 tried to kill off an extremely popular character, changed a really popular character so much she might as well have been a different character, introduced not-Stilwater, and tried too hard to be silly without any of the gravitas and seriousness that kept 2 pretty grounded. Not to mention they replaced Charles Shaughnessy with Robin Atkins Downes in future titles (to be fair, that's more or less a personal nitpick). What makes it even worse is knowing that Saints Row 2 was more or less a fluke. The only reason it happened at all is because Volition fucked up the ending of the first game and decided "lol oh well." Christ, this series deserved better.

The thing about saints row 4 is that, its kinda fun but there is soo many things that i just don't enjoy. Mostly just aliens, alien police, hologram humans, breaking the reality to the maximum. It is fun to have super powers but i rather have super powers on earth then in a virtual world. Also you know that the game is dead when the developers literally blow up THE ENTIRE EARTH.

what i find weird is when you do a mission or activity that requires the police to be on your ass it keeps the stock police from sr3 but once you're outside a mission it's all alien police after 1 star. for example i did a rampage mission and had swat vehicles and stuff after me but no aliens at all

I liked the game, there is a lot to do and in terms of customization options I am baffled that you don't think there is enough - Literally no other game comes close to this for customisation options (not that I care) The world is a little empty and by the end game you are too OP and the enemies repetitive so it kind of fizzles out. Many achievements are glitched too which always makes me think the devs didn't give it their all but for me is a solid 3* game.

How Saints Row 4 controls is how I wish the first Prototype would control. The superpowers in 4 are a bit much and I didn't use cars at all any longer, which was a bit of a shame. Third had me driving loads and opened up later in the game more vertically because reasons. 2 is still my favourite of all of them though. Gotta love Gat.

They'd have to reboot it, I mean sure they could go to another planet and all that, but Saints Row 1, 2 and 3 (mostly 2) are everyone's favorite for a reason, a next gen hard reboot with SR2 type of theme would be cool, I guess another planet would cool too, idk, Saint Row 4 kinda killed my interest in the series, wasn't realy digging the alien sci-fi theme, but SR was like the pepsi to GTAs coke anyway, I can't quite remember what I liked about SR games in the first place, cars? Gangs? the customization? idk it's been a long time since I played them. One thing I still remember was that there was an island you could reach if you flew out far enough, had the loch ness monster or something, was in 2 or 3, that was cool, I don't really have any expectations for SR5, so can't really be let down by whatever they do, love your reviews btw, very well put together, researched and narrated, your Fable review was great, you should do the rest of them, if you want to that is.

I preferred the games when they balanced the outlandish and the more serious stuff. Too little or too much and the games either become a (poor) GTA competitor or...well... Saints Row IV. I still maintain that SR2 hit the sweet spot, if they were to reboot it I think the best way to go about it would be to recreate SR2 with SR3 being an expansion (without Gat being killed off...obviously)

It's interesting that because of GTA, Saints Row completely passed you by. To me it was the kind of the opposite. I found Saints Row, and I can't enjoy GTA that much anymore. I love the 3D GTA games (GTA 2 didn't age well sadly), especially San Andreas, but after that GTA 4 was kind of underwhelming. Who am I kidding... it was a disappointment, I'm sorry to say. It was a good game, but the content, the fun was lacking for me. The vehicle control drove me insane. The friends that constantly nagging you about bowling and drinking, always driving from mission start to where the mission actually starts, Roman shouting about tits were tedious. Ragdoll physics can only be fun so many times. GTA 5 was awesome while it lasted, but I completed the story only once. The several mind numbingly dull missions and other annoying things that I ignored the first time made their effect complete the second time around and I just zoned out. Helicopter controls are a stuff of nightmares... Don't get me started on GTA Online... Because of GTA 4, my brother and I found Saints Row 2. It was a blast from start to finish.

The latest GTA games PC ports are really bad, even GTA V, they really fixed the graphical problems in GTA V but continue with the same problems with the controls, they are very hard to configure, Rockstar seems to forget that it a fucking PC; and it shouldn't be a nightmare configure the controls.

TBH, I really like this game and as a saints row game it's quite decent if you don't mind the over-the-top gameplay/story. Me personally the game was quite fun and definitely an improvement from the third. It's probably my second favourite game in the series next to SR2. =)

I just want to say that Saints Row 3 is one hell of a game, it has a lot of hate, but damn it was funny, a lot of silly jokes but they were good and it also got them out of the “GTA clone” tag. I personally didn’t like Saints Row 2, it was trying so hard to be like GTA with a story that they made it kinda of boring and very lifeless, no personality at all. I do agree that Saints Row fucked up real good. I just hope they do a new Saints Row forgetting all about 4 and having the junior of 3 and a bit of seriousness of 2, and for the love of good, improved graphics, thanks if you read until this point, I’d love to see your comments

Saints Row 4 is a very good game if it didn't damn crash every 30 to 90 minutes on pc. I think I've had 8 game crashes in the span of four hours trying to play the game casually, and not to mention that I have a high-end pc as well.

I think "Saints Row IV" has many (all?) video game styles and genres included, giving the player a sample of them all to play with; not only is it a love letter to the series, but to video games overall. I can understand why some people wouldn't consider that approach making the game as a whole good or something they liked though.

The over the top fun is nice! But it very short doses. If its nonstop like sr3 and sr4 then its just normal gameplay so its boring. Sr2 had it almost perfect. Nothing more crazy than sr2. Would have been great. A sr1 game but with sr2 gaemplay mechanics would have been AMAZING!

I don’t know why but I get the feeling that if there’s ever going to be a new Saints Row sequel they’ll have to make a bold move to get anyone interested in a new Saints Row game again after all of that AGENTS of Mayhem bullshit fiasco & that’s to make a major reckon. A change to bring Saints Row back to it’s roots of being a perfect mixture of both of the over the top silliness & serious grounded tone. Hear me out, what if the events of Saints Row the Third onwards was all just a series of videogames created in the Saints Row universe. Like those simple mini games you would play in your crib in Saints Row 2 just with a lot of conveniently placed Saints Flow Product placement to go along with it, think about it. It’ll lower stakes, it gives them the chance to make the games story more personal & fleshed out, it explains away why their world has become soo cartoony & most of all it removes THQ Nordic’s urgency to try to top “conquering the entire goddamn universe” & they can finally pick & choose what they want to add to the new game with the simple explanation that “some” of the elements of Saints Row the Third onwards did happen like STAG or the Syndicate or even being in a Metal Gear satire missions esc hell you can even throw both Prfessor Genki & Genki Bowls Murder Time Fun Time in there. Just not the crazy stuff like accidentally causing a Zombie outbreak, earth getting destroyed by aliens & or literally going to motherfucking hell!.. & somehow doing whatever bullshit AGENTS of Mayhem did because nobody wanted or liked AGENTS of Mayhem since everyone with a brain knew that they weren’t even trying at that point. Since the novelty of their “Over the top action of their cartoony direction” has worn off & has outstayed it’s welcome.. 😒

Like that scene with Zinyak sitting in front of a hologram of Steelport and removing all the Saints-related buildings for his own should've been him taking Steelport in one hand and Stilwater in the other and smashing the two together.

Hot take, but I think SR4 was just as enjoyable as SR2 and SR3 (never played 1). Yeah I know, SR2 is widely considered the best, but I think 3 and 4 deserve some love despite some odd choices. I'm all for the over the top action and I especially enjoyed the superpowers. That's just my taste. If the game makes you happy, that's all that matters.

Nothing highlights how rushed this game was more than the dive-kick's nuke ability (where if you start from high enough up in the air before activating the dive, it "nukes" every enemy in the surrounding area.) Sounds cool, right? Well because the way the game was programmed, if you're actually high enough to do the nuke, you're ALSO high enough that *the game has stopped rendering any enemies currently on the ground, meaning there is nothing for the blast to hit.* I think a lot of people simply didn't notice this because the dive-kick is one of the last powers you unlock and by that point, seems relatively useless by comparison. Turns out that it's also LITERALLY useless.

I love SRIV almost as much as The Third, but yeah the recycled map didn't help. I still had tons of fun thought, there's something really magical about running around a city with super speed, jumping etc. SRIV sure could've been much better, but it was good enough for me to replay it 3 times and achieve 100% completion :)

Speaking of Saints Row, the sequel is confirmed to be in development by THQ during their earnings. In the meantime, you could review the Gat out of Hell DLC and Agents of Mayhem which is a very different game to Saints Row but has almost all the characters of Saints Row.

As someone who went through all the games fist only (excluding missions where guns are mandated) max difficulty I can say that this one was the least difficult. Incase anyone is curious, the order of difficulty is from hardest to easiest 2,1,3,4. In one I actually enjoyed it a bit more with fist over guns cause of the wonky controls. In terms of which is the funniest fist only I belive 3 takes that cake.

My apologies to make a request so indiscreetly, but I see you have a lot of racing game reviews, so I found it appropriate. Could you check out Xpand Rally or its sequel Xpand Rally Xtreme? They're racing sims from the mid-2000s by Techland in cooperation with Prominence, so they're kinda unique, coming from the developer of titles like Dead Island and later, Dying Light.
