I really enjoyed this! I was in a foul mood, prior to watching this. I'm grateful, and a little awed, at how my anger melted, and my anxiety lessened. Sigh... I love the Spirit.

Hi Everyone, thank you for ALL the comments. I wish I had the time to answer your questions all in the one go but my attempts to replicate/clone myself have been unsuccessful to date. That said I will try to respond to questions as time allows. We just got ourselves a dog, and it's taken up even more time I don't have. Please be patient with me.

My husband was born and raised in Hong Kong China with Buddhist parents. He took English lessons from missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and ultimately was baptized at age 19, a few years later served a mission in Oakland CA, graduated from BYU where we met, sealed in the temple, and we are raising our three kids now in SLC area. He would be a great person for SU to interview! 😁

THE most pertinent point ... we have to choose to believe, we will find evidence to support much of what we seek, but GOD/Heavenly Father will never force us to believe, choice is the prime directive.
@colemanjakeyorgason26803 жыл бұрын
This is an interesting idea, are we really able to “choose” what we believe? Or our minds convinced one way or another after being presented with evidences on either side of an argument? For example, I don’t choose to believe in climate change. I have seen evidences and came to the conclusion that it is real. I can’t choose to believe it isn’t real. I would have to come across evidence to the contrary to convince my mind otherwise. It’s an interesting question, but I don’t think we are capable of choosing to believe something we aren’t already, at least to some degree, convinced of.

22:00 at the end of the day, it's JUST ABOUT FAITH in Jesus Christ. Yes...

Faith in Christ is where you begin like a baby. Some people want to stay babies all their lives. They don't care that that may become their eternity.
@BlueJayBirdSaint3 жыл бұрын
@@khemingw you're right. But my point, and I think it was David's in the video too, is that even if I do all things right on my side, at the end of the day if I don't go or do it because of faith, I'd be missing the point and path. It's like with charity, you could be the most celestial of all beings, but if you're without charity it's like nothingness (or less than it, maybe).

Feel free to do part 2, where he can go further into what inspires him about church doctrine. Church milestones like getting baptized are fine and all, but that doesn't give much depth. From this interview I very much liked that he was never pressured to believe (something I swam in being born in the church - there was no choice - not believing simply wasn't acceptable). I also liked how he briefly described the church working for him, but again I'd appreciate more depth. The guy is very likable and easy to listen to. I was a bit disappointed that he placed anyone's trouble with the church on them personally. Sounds like he sees no legitimate reason to leave. If people leave it's always because they are wrong in some way - which is a common characteristic of a high control group. I liked his more healthy view of repentance. Overall I'd like to hear more from him. The interview went quickly and stayed pretty surface level. Not interested in him explaining for others why they leave (that would be for themselves to explain), but very interested to hear more depth about why he stays.

Hi Lee, some great probing comments. I'd like to do them justice by waiting till I have a bit more time on my hands to respond properly. In the meantime, while I'm not exactly sure at what part of the interview it was, I'm sorry that what I said implied that all who leave the church do so because they made the wrong decisions. That was not my intent. Anyway, will post again soon to hopefully address your concerns. Thanks in advance for your patience.

He said it took him almost exactly a year to serve a mission from the time he was baptized. I wonder what he did to prepare for that major decision?
@casperyeow89963 жыл бұрын
Didn't really have any inclination to serve a full-time mission until I was baptized. Once that happened, the desire built up pretty quick. Coming from an Asian background, it wasn't an easy thing for some of our relatives to take. Luckily for me, I already had some money saved up and my folks were amazing support.
