you are definitely the saito guru i have never seen the double plug version with twin carbies, i will bet its a pig to tune but what a cool engine, i have 3 or 4 gas twins but they do not have the same nostalgia as those lovely saito engines, thanks for taking the time and the effort to share this with us will be waiting for the next one

No the dual plug means nothing when it comes to tuning and a dual carb is very easy to tune. It is much better for ensuring the cylinders are balanced. A single carb cannot adjust for the varying heat, richness of the mixture like a dual carb can.

The new Saito 61TS looks like it solves some of the intake tube damage issues as the carb is located behind the crankcase and intake tubes are located behind the cylinders where they are less vulnerable to crash damage. Looks like my early FA 300T is first generation with the single carb facing UP. I converted it to ignition and expect that it may end up in a scale project some day. For now, it powers a large aerobatic plane that sounds very scale like in the air.

I have the same 270 as yours . No dents in my intakes but a heck of a crease on my exhaust header ! The guy I bought it from put a perry pump on it as he said he couldn't get it to run without it . It does run good albeit a bit messy lol

You may be able to fill the pipes with compressed air, then heat them with a torch to pop the dents out. I've seen videos of people fixing dirt bike expansion chambers that way.

Those intake manifolds must be made of fairly soft metal if they can be so easily damaged. To me that damage looks like either from rough handling or from being involved in a crash.

Hi David love your work , you have got my attention to day again with saito just love them. If it helps I have had good luck getting parts for my FA 90R3 's from MACGREGOR . CO .UK , just incace you haven't found them. Thanks again keep up the great work

Question, can I change my Saito 300T to a Saito 300TL config simply by changing the intake manifolds?

You need the twin carbs and short intake runners from a 300 DP engine plus the linkage assembly. This may not be easy to find.... LOL
