This game forced me to confront my inability to hit-confirm, even though I have no trouble doing the whiff-punish training. The mental processing it takes to distinguish between block and hit only adds an extra 3-4 frames, but it's just enough to leave me outside the window for a successful confirm. Hopefully I can shave off a few frames with some practice.

Being left handed, I actually do better on the right side. Until I started practicing more and more, where I got used to having my inputs reversed. I am now better on the left side because all training modes are always on the left side for some reason.

I'm probably going to end up picking this up. I'm glad you played the Arcade mode, cause it's probably my favorite thing here outside of the core game. In a game like this, where everything's been stripped away except for the core fundamentals, having all the arcade AI be common player archetypes that you might face irl is a great way to ease people into the VS mode, which is where the core game is. I feel like If I play the arcade mode, I'll have a good idea of what to expect in the game and how to deal with common strategies. Seems like the game is really well designed.

Sajam, you should look into a game called "One Strike". It's another really good fighting game that's easy to pick up and understand, and it's at a pretty low price too. It currently has 10 characters including the DLC. It kinda feels like Footsies with more characters, each with their own unique playstyles, strengths, weaknesses, etc.

The only catch is that there's no online play, so you'll need to either have someone over to get the full experience or jerry rig it with Parsec.

I just find it endlessly hilarious(and vindicating) Sajam has more fun losing to the whiff punisher AI in a 4 dollar game than he has winning against real players in 60-80 dollar SamSho V. It’s almost like the things we’ve been telling fighting game companies to get off their ass and implement(rollback, proper tutorials that aren’t just info dumps, in-game frame data, AI that do more to test the player than just fucking reading inputs and/or breaking the rules of the game) actually make a big difference!
