I honestly feel like everyone should work customer service at some point in their life so they get to feel how important it is to be nice to your waiter.

Man me and my friends have been going to the same restaurant almost every week for 6 years or so. We know a majority of the staff working there at any given time. They're awesome to us. We get free drinks most of the time, extra shit, amazing service, they even had a wing wednesday deal that got nerfed to hell and they still keep the good deal for our table. The people there are cool and its always great talking to them. We tip super well. Theres almost never a reason to be a huge dick to people and we would not get any of the shit if we were. Rip needs to fucking chill.

I worked in a gas station for 7+ years, and terrible customers can be some of the worst people out there; especially because a lot of them can be regulars at the establishments they're awful in. Personally I get weirded out by overly friendly customers, but that's only because I had regulars that became entitled from favors my coworkers would do for them; so it made me feel like people were being nice or friendly just for the sake of freebies, instead of just because it's the respectful way to interact with people. Especially with older generations, people tend to take the "you're more likely to get extra treatment if you're nice" to mean "you're entitled to extra treatment when you're nice". Prime example was this one 60 something y/o who would hang around a lot and occasionally help the morning crew with simple tasks, like taking out the trash, in exchange for free coffees. First off, our company specifically told us to not let non-employees do work, due to them not being on payroll and that being able to cause issues. Secondly, he'd expect me, who worked from 2pm-10pm to give him free coffee as well. Because he helps out at 6am. Against our company policy. And it'd be fine if me telling him "I'm sorry, but I can't give you coffee for free because of that" was met with "Oh, okay, I understand". But it was always "But they give me it for free in the morning because I help out". That's just baseless entitlement. So yeah, be nice to customer service, but also don't be that guy that feels like you're entitled to extras for just being a good person.

Legit. I don't have the social bandwith to do small talk and stuff most days, but based on my experience on both sides of the interaction, basic please-and-thank-you and some patience when things go wrong already goes a long way.

I work overnights at a gas station and I get free food from people who close at fast food restaurants just cause I act like a decent human being to them, which is kinda sad.

Bros my friend and I both watched this video today and then us and some friends go to Denny’s at midnight and we’re all nice to our server. Not even like extremely nice we just weren’t rude and she came over later to tell us she gave us all of our drinks for free. My friend and I both look at each other and say “bro Sajam’s video.” Just not being a jerk really goes a long way fellas

5:15 „No problem bro, I got you covered“ Man I had to pause, because I actually laughed my ass off. I thought you threw the rest of the ice coffee at him and therefore „covered“ him in his own fucking drink 😂👌🏼 Then I watched the rest of the vid. What you actually did was the right thing to do. So either way... props to you my man. ✌🏼

Twice in the same week someone threw a drink out their window _(one milkshake, one soda)_ directly onto my windshield _while driving on the freeway._ In both cases I could not see and was so startled I almost crashed, but just held it together, turned on the wipers and everything was fine. I had been driving for about 3 years at the time; I've been driving for 22 years now, and never before and never since has anyone thrown anything, let alone a full drink, on my car while driving, and it happened twice in a week. When the second drink temporarily blinded me all I could think was "this is my life now", but as it turns out, no, it was just the weirdest coincidence I've ever been involved in.

This is so true, as someone who has worked constantly in customer service. If a customer is nice to me, I will go out of my way to give them money, discounts, extra upgrades to orders, etc. But if they're a mean dickhead, I will do the bare minimum.

yep if you worked in shitty customer service you get it and I mean real SHITTY too. Like my example is when I worked at a place called Party supply warehouse. We would lend people normal round wooden tables and plastic chairs for parties. People were the worst because they were planning for stressful events. They bickered, yelled, and even heckled us. AND at the end of the day after those big parties who do you think cleaned the tables. not the people returning them. No one ever said thank you. we loaded trucks with chairs and tables and they were always yelling at us to hurry it up. That's why I do a little extra for people in customer service.
