I grew up hearing “life isn’t fair” so much in my small town. My mom was sick when I was growing up, and all of her paycheck went to hospital bills and medicine, so we really struggled. For context on the usage of gyp - the etymology is contested! The word g/psy, however, is widely considered a slur, and many Romani people prefer Romani or their specific culture (Roma/Rroma, Sinti, etc.). Jacob is correct that one of the proposed origins of the word is from the extremely antiziganist (anti-romani) stereotypes about theft and crime, and many people avoid the word for this reason. However, there's also a good chance that older people, particularly from outside of Europe, would not be aware of these connotations, as even the g slur itself is still used in official language throughout the world.

What really gets me about the push of grind culture is like not everyone can be at the top because then there is no top, it either doesn’t function (if you don’t have 9-5ers who tf makes the company run and function?) or everyone is then already at the same level so the “need” for competition or to be the better one is never ending. People are too damn sensitive. I'm a proud gypsy and aren't offended by the word.
@cats19702 жыл бұрын
@@BabyJesus66 It truly depends on the person/area. Sinti people around my area hate the word because it was the N*zi “deplorables” classification term. Sinti who were imprisoned in the ghettos went to “g* ghettos” and those sent to the gas chambers left on the “g* train.” Couple years back a mobile home community was set on fire and the slur sprayed on the walls. Just like most slurs the general rule applies: those who were oppressed with it can choose if they want to use/reclaim it, others should not use it regardless of intent.

I just wanted to point out that is toxic to promise your child financial security and then abandon them in their most vulnerable moments. Just because you're a rich kid, doesn't mean you aren't an abuse victim. This Kevin guy sucks but 22:00 ish reads as mommy issues. Ask every rich kid, they would go without the money, its the fact that your parents want to screw you over at every turn and then blame you for it. I know it's not relatable to have a college fund, but I have no money of my own and I'm disabled so can barely earn. I am financially forced to live with my abusive mother. It's not all fun and games to be a rich kid.

It's so strange how people like this are SO CLOSE to being aware of how terrible the economic system is, but instead of concluding "huh, we should rework the system so it helps more people", their answer is to pretend that the playing field is equal and project a moral failing onto those who the system oppresses, so they can accept the random unfairness of the system and the benefits they get without cognitive dissonance. Also...do you REALLY want everyone to be an entrepreneur? Society can't function if EVERYONE does the same job. Pretty sure you want people to make your clothes and food and build your houses. They just have to pretend that those people could CHOOSE to be rich like them if they tried, so they don't have to worry about the ones that don't.
